"As I am not able to link directly to Wretchard’s piece on the topic."
Douglas,
Think I am missing something. (again)
What are you refering to about being unable to link directly to Wretchard's piece?

He doesn't seem to have any type of permalink so that you can link directly to that specific post. In a short time, the post will be "lost" -- one among many others at his site. A reader may not be able to readily find it. If I'm wrong on that, please let me know (it would be much easier to link.)

Douglas,
Although he doesn't use Permalinks, I am quite certain the address of the page with the comments remains permanent. I checked back on some of the archive links from a few months ago to confirm that,

So you can link to "Communism of the 21st Century" at address below,
and it will remain linked at that address permanently.

The Archive Test:

So, if you go to the Sept Archive,
http://belmontclub.blogspot.com/ ...ub_archive.html

and click on the comments link on the
"Back to the Future"
post, for instance,
it takes you to the post at address below, which is the *same as it was back in Sept.*

Hope we're talking about the same thing here, if not tell me so I'll know I still have more to find out about this detail.

Regards,
Doug

Douglas,

I know a bit about HTML, but am new to Blogger stuff, so I had not heard of "permalinks" until recently.

Below is a conversation relating to a *specific comment* on a given page like Wretchard's that doesn't have permalinks.
(I should practice doing it so I don't forget. - I learned HTML when I was homeschooling my son, so I had expert help right at hand!)

Speaking of that HTMLBlogheads: How do you post to a specific post on a page. (IE what microsoft calls bookmarks in IE.)

The feature you ask about is 'Permalink', i think you mean, and there has to be a tag pointing to another web addy, where the entry is stored. So, if the web page don't have the feature, yer outta luck. That's my non, really non, tech understanding of it.

Buddy is right regarding permalinks - on this blog, specific posts are referred to with the # sign at the bottom of each post. Right-click, then "copy shortcut" in the pop-up window, I think...

But, even without tricks like these, you can still permanently link Wretchard's posts as in previous comment above.
(unless I am wrong, or unless you are talking about a totally different problem, in which case I appologize to you and me for wasting our time!)

My e-mail, btw is "Douglas M. Nill" ...currently I can receive mail, but cannot send it (THAT's a useful feature!) because I haven't got my kid to fix it since I got a different kind of DSL Account.

Regards,
Doug

Gravatar Good old blogger! it stripped out the e-mail 'cause it was bracketed.

Is there a way to delete comments here, like my double post?
