Please note that "Enterprise" was cancelled after just four seasons. Intended and expected to run for seven years, as the other three post original series versions ran. Next Generation, that most "liberal" of all the series, could have gone seven additional years, and was cancelled because Paramount thought there was more money in further spin-offs, feature films etc., and also because the studio could probably not have afforded to pay the actors what they would have wanted to renew their contracts.

Ah, yes, it was so awful when the original Star Trek showed Midwesterners, Doctors, Vulcans, Chinese (tho played by Japanese actor), Scots, Russians (eek!) and even Negroes (lawdy lawdy save us!) working together peacefully for common good of humanity! Why, I even hear the Negro kissed the captain!
Thank god that's over! Now let's get back to the tried and true themes of nukular annihilation in the form of giant ants as retarded transparent stand-ins for the Soviets - good old fashioned American stuff.

Wow. It really makes my Monday that this blog inadvertently became a discussion about Star Trek.
Those Freepers probably became apoplectic when they heard Spock talking with a woman like this:
"The glory of creation is in its infinite diversity."
"And the ways our differences combine to create meaning and beauty."

DB: Why else do you think that racism is the key plank in the GOP platform?
Notice that they aligned themselves with the Southern Baptists and their like-minded fellow travelers, and NOT the mainline Protestant or Catholic churches. Why do the Southern Baptists exist? Because they broke off from the rest of the Baptists in the 1840s when the Baptist leadership took a strong anti-slavery stance.
That's also why I call them the religio-racist right.

A world where anything is possible but not everything is possible. Anything can happen, but not all things can happen at once. That is what time is for, to keep all things from happening at the same moment. That shall be the only rule of our new fantasy world. "
At the risk of stating the obvious, this is close to gibberish.
And besides, a real conservative that the power of W does make it possible for everything to happen at once.

It's a shame Ayn Rand never did comic books, ahem, graphic novels. Eh?

Phoenix,
That's a great question and one that would likely yield a wide array of answers from an equal number of respondents. I think I'll give you mine in the form of a post later.

"A cosmos not governed by compassion or tolerance or equality, but common sense and merit. A universe of strange and totally new lifeforms and not distorted reflections of human characters in our present world,"
yes a universe of "strange and totally new lifeforms" that eschew outmoded concepts like "compassion" and "tolerance" that would immediately see the "merit" in utterly annihilating......you,genius.
