Gravatar I agree with you for the most part. Wang sometimes almost seems super human in the "how did he do that?" department. Because it is so difficult to figure out how he has been successful its impossible to predict if he will repeat it.

The thing about Wang that frustrates me is he very often can get a hitter to an 0-2 count and can't close the deal with a K. I think if he was to develop another + pitch as an out pitch in strike out situations he might be able to improve his K rate dramaticly.

Gravatar There is another report coming out of the Newark Star Ledger that the Yankees and the Diamondbacks are discussing a return to Arizona for Johnson.

Gravatar ESPN is now reporting that the Diamondbacks have offered a deal to the Yankees:

"In need of starting pitching -- and a marquee name that will draw more fans -- the Diamondbacks have offered a package of at least three players, including a major-leaguer. They would also want a 72-hour window to negotiate an extension with Johnson, who is owed $16 million in the final year of his contract. The Yankees, according to the official, don't want to pick up any of Johnson's salary."

It also maybe a 3 way trade with the Padres: "The official said the San Diego Padres are also involved in trade discussions. It's believed that right-handed reliever Scott Linebrink could be the centerpiece of a deal."

Gravatar Dumping Randy Johnson and actually getting real value for him? Dear God.

We should ask for Chad Tracy. They've dangled him already this year.

Gravatar KFMB in San Diego is reporting that the Diamondbacks have offered Chad Tracy, and two prospects for Randy Johnson and cash

Gravatar If the player is Tracy, and the D'Back's take most of the contract, then pull the trigger. If the player is Byrnes, than we must get Miguel Montero as well to make the deal viable. Otherwise we proceed with RJ in our rotatipn and take the draft picks at the end of next year. We can still trade Pavano at the end of spring training to get whatever we need.

Gravatar Honestly, I'd give RJ away for free if anyone would take him. Miguel Montero would be a decent haul for him. He's got a pretty decent minor league hitting record. Not sure about his defense, but he could be a great bridge to the other Montero and temporary backup.

Gravatar Montero seems like the obvious choice as the center of this deal, but dont forget that the dbacks traded estrada to the brewers earlier thsi year to allow Montero the opportunity to take over.

if the yankees get much back, i highly doubt it'll include any of the talented and inexpensive positional players the dbacks have been slowly and successfully stockpiling there for the last couple years. i would expect more of a package around pitching, like they got from the tigers for sheff.

"Quote from Peter's Abraham Blog
Johnson is 43, makes $16 million and is coming off back surgery. Cashman can get players for him, but probably not Micah Owings and Chad Tracy.

I saw somebody wanted Scott Linebrink and Adian Gonzalez from San Diego. Why not Jake Peavy, too?

If this trade happens (and I think it will) I suspect it will be more like the Sheffield deal: One top prospect and two secondary guys. The primary benefits for the Yankees would be shedding payroll and getting younger.

Gravatar I think that we'll more likely see a Gary Sheffield type trade, where we get one high risk high reward major league ready guy and two intriguing lesser prospects.

If I'm Cashman, I offer something to sweeten the deal and get us Conor Jackson. Tyler Clippard or Humberto Sanchez.
