More likely what is the author smoking? Cabrera must be worth oh about every much as his predecessor Rickie Ledee. If there is a grain of truth there must be a real player from the Yankees to the Braves.

There is no reason to try to play the martyr especially now since we won in 2004. I would be angry if Boston had to play the largest ticket prices yet held back using the resources so that we could spend less than the Yankees so that people would think us the underdogs. I honestly think the sell out streak says more about Boston as a team than how much less we spend than the Yankees. To be honest when Steinbrenner dies, the Yankees are probably going to cut back spending to the point where it is forseeable that the Red Sox spend the most money of any team in the major leagues. There is no pride by Marlins fans that they spend one tenth what Yankees do, I don't understand pride in spending 60% what the Yankees do.

The sox haven't just thrown money at the problem. They have spent money to fill holes where they don't have much organizational depth. In a similar way acquiring another young pitcher and locking him up allows them to not rush the bucholz/bowden/masterson/bards of the organization. The ability to be able to let talent fully develop is great and if the talent comes along faster then the veteran can become a trade chip.
Let me just throw in the fact I love how the Yankees are bringing Phillips along. Although he could certainly contribute this year, they've acquired enough veteran SPs that they don't need to count on him to contribute this year.
Are you kidding me? Phillips? How about Melky, Cano, Wang.
