you make some valid points. and again, I am so sorry for the total loss you and your family have experienced.

Gravatar Assalamu alaikum, while I in anger made a comment yesterday to myself while watching the News that this was a race issue, I'm wondering if it's more of a class thing, or lack of planning or lack of something else.

It may not be a race issue, but the media makes it that way, in how they describe the people, as you said the white people are "stocking up on povisions" while the black women you referred to are "looters". had I bee in these people's situations, I'm not sure I'd not have done the same thing, but the raping of women part I don't get, unless it's just the taking of power for power's sake.

Gravatar I am so sorry your family is going through all of this. I am with you in the thinking that the aftermath could very well be as much of a survival issue as the storm.

Of course the media is a race issue creating machine... Which is just disgusting. I saw the pictures you are talking about, spin at its' best I say. The same way that "terrorists" can be "freedom Fighters" if it fits the agenda.

I guess the really disturbing part is just how unprepared we are for this sort of thing. Are we (Americans) that bad? This is how we act in a national emergency? I didn't see this raping and pillaging going on after the tsunami... Have we lost our moral compass? Kinda reminds me of people robbing the apartments they found addresses for on missing posters after 9/11.

Gravatar As-Salaamu 'alaikum,

I meant to blog about the black/white looting issue which was discussed on the BBC London call-in this morning. The call-in is hosted by one Vanessa Feltz.

Now, the subject of the show was whether this sort of thing could happen in London (have you heard the crime stories over the past few weeks?) and one idiot texted in saying that white people don't riot - that sort of thing is only what blacks (Brixton, LA etc) and Asians (Bradford etc) do.

I'm sure Feltz, who is Jewish, would have been told at school about the Russian and Ukraininan mobs who used to tear through Jewish villages in the 19th century, and everyone knows what colour Ukrainians are.

Gravatar I agree with what you have said here. I think the looters are acting out of deseperation. I don't agree with it but I can understand the reason behind their actions. I can't even begin to imagine the horrible living situation the people there are enduring while waiting for help. It makes me sick that more hasn't been done to help those affected. At times I get really angry and at other times I just have to cry.
