My dad lived all of his growing up years in New Orleans - all my aunts and uncles and cousins are there and I've never heard any of them say N'Awlins. They all have that typical accent but it still comes out New-or-lens.

Still feeling for you and your family! Hang in there!

Gravatar As-Salaamu 'alaikum,

You mean that the "di" in Acadiana is pronounced "die", as it is in "Diana"?

Frankly if people pronounce things in funny ways they shouldn't expect outsiders to be able to pronounce them. I don't think most English know that Launceston is pronounced "Lawnston" and Wymondham is pronounced "Wyndham". And as for Welsh place names with their ll's, that's another story altogether.

Gravatar my bad, it should be DEE- ana. I forgot there were several ways to pronounce Diana...
