Gravatar Salaam;

My vote is for Nice Husband.

Other than that, I have nothing useful to add because I know nothing about this and am learning from you (masha'Allah).

Gravatar You gotta that right!
Today I had a hard discussion about this same topic, and people don't get who will be, or who is suffering with all that just for not understanding what is going on between the lines.
Quoting you “Just because the rest of the world does it, doesn't mean it's right!”
Bravo!

Gravatar cncz i didn't know the Swiss were so racist!

I think you are better off in France or maybe not..
Did you hear about this?

Gravatar The great Namus is not happy at all...in fact he is very very sad now :'(
He loves seeing you jump around in your little ninja jilbab...

Gravatar I agree with the fact that job security is an important issue for young people AND old people alike. However, you can also look at the opposite viewpoint. The fact that employees have to give two to six months notice when they want to leave a job ends up limiting upward mobility. In North America, if a better job comes up, you give your company two weeks notice and then you're out the door after two weeks (or less, if the company just tells you to pack up and leave) and into a better job. Then, your old job is freed up for somebody else. If a better job comes up in France or Switzerland, the hiring company has to wait two to six months for you to make the move - they may or may not want to wait.
No pain, no gain. My opinion is that taking a bit of risk in terms of job security would eventually mean better jobs AND increasing standards of living for all. I guess I'm sounding kind of like a Yankee Capitalist pig!

Gravatar I don't agree at all with Big Finn. Actually when you need to leave your job (what you call upward mobility) for a better job (it does happen ;o)), although you are theoretically supposed to serve 3 months (never 6, your informations are wrong), it is almost always possible to leave earlier. And then the the problem is not there in my opinion. Should there be an unequal treatment for those under 26 ? Does a company really need 2 years to see if someone is fit for a basic job ? But then I must be some kind of a retrograd communist ;o)

Gravatar So what happens if you just up and quit your job? Do you get sued or something?

Gravatar it depends on the terms stipulated in your contract...but if you or your boss can prove just cause, it can be immediate. what happens frequently in switzerland is that if you give notice, they include your remaining vacation time in that notice, which means instead of leaving in a month or two months, you can leave in two weeks or three weeks. that makes a win win situation where they don't pay you extra salary and you get to bail and also that if you still have vacation time to be paid, you cannot start your new job immediately.
