Gravatar "Gee, finally two foreigners in Germany speak German!"

Hmph. I know I can so take Underage German Teacher for that comment. And eat a sandwich.

I want you to go on hajj just because I find the whole thing fascinating and I'd love to hear of the experience from someone who's been there. I have a Muslim friend who lives in the US and she's not been either and I nudge her to do it too so I can get a report back. I don't even care if the reports are that it's hot and the crowds are annoying and the food is scary - I just want a real first hand report.

Gravatar I know a few couples who communicate in English, a second language for both of them. I've witnessed the communication problems it gives, too, when a Spanish woman and German guy try to fight in English. It's not pretty.

They got to the point where they decided they needed to learn eachother's languages WELL in order to communicate at the level that they want... so they are investing the time and money to do that. Now that's love.

Gravatar Have your husband work on producing an heir? Surely that's a job for both of you?

Gravatar Did I just make my first appearance in someone else's blog or do you know other couples in our situation? :+) I know a few with other language combinations, but sooner or later they learned each other's languages (Kurdish and Arabic, for example).

And those are some good goals with a realistic time frame. I would envision hajj being much more "fun" when one can actually navigate oneself and not have to worry about being too slow and getting trampled. No pressure, yet, though. You have all the time in the world til the reverse scenario might set in.

Gravatar On the heir thing you know I am doing a little dance here in my computer chair....I think I will stand up and dance....

Gravatar I like your list of goals.

Gravatar good goals for a good person, you deserve it all!

Gravatar I hope it's a female heir. Down with the Patriarchy. Moreover, if you can have the birth here in the US to ensure US citizenship, maybe we can get her as President one day too. A female Muslim President... sounds unlikely right now... but just think how different the world was 35 years ago. By the time your daughter would be 35 (and eligible for the Presidency) who KNOWS what America will be like!

Good luck

Gravatar oh yeah one more joke

Q: What was France called during WW2?
A: Germany!

Gravatar Steve- children born to US citizens are always US citizens, it is only to be President that you have to be born in the US. I know, I'm semantics Nazi.

However, in order to be Algerian, you have to be born of an Algerian father.

On a practical note, the two hospitals where my husband is from are considered the worst in France. I am not even guaranteed an epidural or a "real doctor", so I am pushing for Swiss or US birth.

Gravatar I don't know what the first two are, so I'm gonna say good luck on accomplishing those goals.

I TOTALLY know what the third one is, and to that I say WOO-HOO!!!!! (In fact, I said it out loud, after which I said "C is ready for a BABY!" Drew said "You mean for her and S?" "No, sweetie, her other husband.")

Gravatar wow really? I did not know that.

Good luck! (hopefully it wont come down to luck)
