Gravatar I have no opinion or input about prayer outfits but I did enjoy that link you gave to the Islamic Boutique. It helped me learn more about the Islamic wardrobe and reading that little bulletin board attached to that website educated me even more.

Gravatar Asalaam alikum sister,
first let me say that i LOVE you blog. You keep me ROLLin' all day at work (from reading past posts). Now on subject...I LOVE my one piece prayer garment. Your RIGHT it is great for answering the door and unexpectant guests. I like/lov to be FREE of all confinds in my home..so it keeps me from having to RUN and get clothes. It also helps from having to fumble with clothes at FAJR or anythere time, as long as they are CLEAN it's all GOOD.
Ma salaam

Gravatar I love this post! I know what you mean about prayer beads, i've had some lovely pairs which I have worn out completely. I think they have three stages: 1)new and need to be broken in 2)Just right 3)used so much the string has totally stretched and is on the point of snapping.

I am more into two piece prayer outfits because I'm tall and always and up nearly breaking my neck when I stand on the hem of a one piece.

Gravatar Salaam Sis, thanks for sharing this information!

Gravatar Yeah, i got cramps in my hand from my favorite beads (and i hadn't done too much dhikr). Guess the gap's not right...good excuse to get another, huh?

Gravatar Assalamu Alaikum,

I'm SOOOO WITH YOU on all three parts of this post.

First off, I'm Black. My skin gets ashy with a quickness, and I suffered until I learned to keep some cream on hand for right after wudu. Somebody had the nerve to tell me I couldn't do that and I had to restrain myself... needless to say it came out they didnt' know what they were talking about.

Second: Is there a nice pattern out there for a 1-piece prayer outfit? B/C I'd love one, for all the reasons you mentioned, but I'm tall (no. Taller than you're thinking. 6'2'' tall.) like one of your commenters. If I don't make my own, I prolly won't ever have one. And I can sew anything... with a pattern.

Third: Yup on the beads. Yup Yup Yup. My first set broke and I was so sad. They were a gift when I first took Shahada.

Anyhow, thanks for a great post!

peace

Gravatar Your background sounds as interesting as mine Mom and Dad's - Mexican American convert to Islam from Texas married to Pakistani.

Actually found your blog b/c I'm desparately searching for a 1 piece prayer outfit and I think those are the best too.
