Good write up. Though I'm not sure I could bring myself to read something penned by Johnny Damon.
My kid loves him, but I just couldn't stomach it.
Now, the second book. It looks like one I'll be picking up in the near future. Right now I'm re-reading "3 Nights in August."

This reminds me of a book from '99 called "Every pitcher tells a story" by Seth Swirsky where he wrote to various pitchers and asked them to answer a questions, or to write back with a thought, a memory, advice... it includes the original replies, for any amateur graphologists out there-- There is a letter from Moyer "a crafty, twelve-year veteran, now pitching for the Seattle Mariners") who was asked if he ever feels alone on the mound...
Carl Pavano writes about giving up McGwire's #70, Jim Colborn writes about goofing around, Larry Yount on his one game pro career, and there are also some vintage letters from Judge Landis, Cy Young, and a boy's letter to Joe Jackson

I've seen the Seth Swirsky books (he has a few others with "letters" from players, doesn't he?) but never really read them, because the layouts were a little funky. Maybe I'm thinking of something else.
Man, Larry Yount. Didn't even get to throw a real pitch in an MLB game... that just sucks. In Joe Nuxhall's story in the debut book, he mentions how Jake Eisenhart, who was 21 the day the 15-year-old Nuxhall debuted, got the last out of Nuxhall's inning.... and never pitched in a game again.

I'm sure the Damon book will end up at your local Barnes & Noble discount shelf.
