The review told me everything I needed to know about it and will pass on the book, so thanks for saving me the money.

However, the brackets as you describe them shows an inherent defect in oral histories: the memory can often be faulty, an exhibition of wishful thinking or fabrication, or some kind of self-justification. The corrections would probably have been better displayed through footnotes at the bottom of the page, though.
