How long until Yamai's sunglasses becomes the new Yuki Saito handkerchief-like fashion statement? :D

And yes, Hiroshima now has the longest Series drought at 23 years. (Cubs and Indians, you just lost another partner in your misery party.) I hope Hiroshima wins it all in the near future so that Hanshin is in that unenviable position. ;) (yes, yes, I know, Hanshin's far more likely to win it all soon than Hiroshima)

You know what's REALLY scary/awesome about Norihiro's story this season? *I* had a higher salary than he did!

And if you want to see something funny, you should see the bets you can make on Yahoo for the Konami Cup--Dragons have two bets (over or under 7 runs) at about 2-1, and everyone else is double digits-1. I see they're playing the SK Wyverns--damn, I was cheering for the Hanhwa Eagles, as a couple of my friends living in Korea have adopted them as their KBO team.

I was totally going to say the exact same thing about Norihiro's salary. My Japan salary is lower than his, but my American one was higher. That's sort of like last year when I was going through which Fighters had lower salaries than me.

That'd never happen in America :)

I don't gamble, so the bets don't really make a difference to me. I'm just betting that Chunichi will be in the finals, because dammit, I want to see them play again.

Gravatar I came across a sports gambling website message board from the UK where one of the punters was using my site to get info on Japanese players so he could wager on the games. And he was apparently doing pretty decently. Weird. Especially since I don't gamble either.

I think it's going to be a while before Hiroshima is a contender. I might be dead by then, it will take that long because they run on such a shoestring that losing free agents such as Arai is inevitable and their farm system isn't producing much of anything.

Here's a thought: the last time that the Dragons won a Japan Series, Ochiai's wife Nobuko was in elementary school (she's a few years older than he is). And I've never seen a manager's wife participate in the beer spraying ritual.
