Gravatar It is funny to see Hillary and Ted Kennedy on this side of the issue indeed . It is certainly odd that they are suddenly concerned about our sovereignty.

I do understand the concern about the perception of racism in not backing this deal. The flaw however in Bush's argument that we should allow the UAE the same latitude as the Britsh, in that they are our allies in the war on terror, is the question whether the UAE is a true ally of the United States. I dont think the people and congress of the United States would be in opposition to this if they honestly believed the UAE was 100% behind us. I must admit that I do not believe them entirely myself (and I think this is the root of the problem with the rest of the American public.)

As to why Hillary and Kennedy are so against it...they are against anything Bush is for. This time I think they are on right side of the issue but the reason they are is not to protect America's sovereignty.

I think Bush is really hurting the Republicans on this issue. From discussions with everyone I know (apart from the blogging community) virtually all of them are against this (and really care about this issue). I shudder to think what this may mean to us in the 2006 election.
For that reason alone Bush ought to be careful where he treads here...He may be headed to a catastropic collapse of all we have been fighting for these years (and I dont think he can defend this one).

You guys are awesome. Keep sending those Jihadists home to their imaginary lunatic in the sky, and may the true God watch over you.
