Gravatar Bandit, safe journey.

Gravatar Hey guys,

Here's an interesting article. Apparently CENTCOM states that the situation in Iraq is "trending sharply towards chaos."

Do you think some liberals could have gotten into CENTCOM and are spreading bogus information?

The civil strife index in Baghdad and elsewhere has spiked. Or so they say. Who to believe, CENTCOM or the rosy picture two bloggers paint?

According to this, the information you're spreading is inaccurate. Makes me wonder what your real MOS is.

U.S. Central Command Charts Sharp Movement of the Civil Conflict in Iraq Toward Chaos

WASHINGTON, Oct. 30 — A classified briefing prepared two weeks ago by the United States Central Command portrays Iraq as edging toward chaos, in a chart that the military is using as a barometer of civil conflict.

A slide titled “Iraq: Indications and Warnings of Civil Conflict” lists factors that are destabilizing Iraq.

A one-page slide shown at the Oct. 18 briefing provides a rare glimpse into how the military command that oversees the war is trying to track its trajectory, particularly in terms of sectarian fighting.

The slide includes a color-coded bar chart that is used to illustrate an “Index of Civil Conflict.” It shows a sharp escalation in sectarian violence since the bombing of a Shiite shrine in Samarra in February, and tracks a further worsening this month despite a concerted American push to tamp down the violence in Baghdad.

In fashioning the index, the military is weighing factors like the ineffectual Iraqi police and the dwindling influence of moderate religious and political figures, rather than more traditional military measures such as the enemy’s fighting strength and the control of territory.

The conclusions the Central Command has drawn from these trends are not encouraging, according to a copy of the slide that was obtained by The New York Times. The slide shows Iraq as moving sharply away from “peace,” an ideal on the far left side of the chart, to a point much closer to the right side of the spectrum, a red zone marked “chaos.” As depicted in the command’s chart, the needle has been moving steadily toward the far right of the chart.

An intelligence summary at the bottom of the slide reads “urban areas experiencing ‘ethnic cleansing’ campaigns to consolidate control” and “violence at all-time high, spreading geographically.” According to a Central Command official, the index on civil strife has been a staple of internal command briefings for most of this year. The analysis was prepared by the command’s intelligence directorate, which is overseen by Brig. Gen. John M. Custer.

(And it goes on and on...)

Gravatar Every time something good is posted, a brand new screen-name shows up to bash it. LA if far worse than most places in Iraq. A cop would know that.

It's called an indicator. Thee indicators are acted upon and the enemy is forced to change tactics. A real cop from LA would know this with all of the gang and drug activity in the metro areas. I could say far worse about the 'quagmire' in Compton, South Sentral LA, or other cities in America. Should we 'cut and run' there too?

Do you people just get daily marching orders to go to milblogs and insult us Soldiers?

Gravatar I was noticing that too Chris. I'm wondering if it's the same couple people just using different names.

Good points about LA Chris.

Gravatar Godspeed Bandit...

And as for 'LACop"????????? I was gonna bother answering you but I see others have already had at it. Welcome to Tanker Bros LA Cop. You might learn something, if you come here with an open mind.

And Tracy? Doesn't matter to me if that is the same coupla folks cruising the blogs. Bring it on!!!

Gravatar I'd have to take the time and look for writing style and word useage. I don't want to waste my time on it. They will post hate for a day and go away. And IP trace would also show if it was the same originating computer.

It's like reading Orwell's "1984" and seeing the daily "Two Minutes Hate" with President playing the role of "Goldstein".

Gravatar Guys,

First let me say that I have nothing but the highest respect for US soldiers.

However: LA in the summertime can be a horrible place. But it's not near as hot as Baghdad, either figuratively or literally.

Comparing the body counts of Baghdad and Los Angeles is lowballing the situation by 30 times.

In a typical year, lately, Los Angeles and suburbs gets around 500 homicides (12 months.) That's improved, believe it or not.

The civilian body count in Baghdad last MONTH ALONE was 1500. Extrapolating that out to a year you get 18,000 civilian dead. And I think that the people saying this are aware of the degree to which they're distorting the facts.

In LA, you aren't finding 60 people at a time abducted, taken out to the desert and shot.

My question is why you would say that things are improving over there when CENTCOM and the Pentagon are saying otherwise. I'm very curious about this. Are you saying that their figures are wrong, that you have better information than US government agencies do on the subject?

If so, maybe you'd better let CENTCOM know about it because they're operating under the assumption that conditions there are rapidly devolving toward a condition they call "chaos" and away from a condition they call "peace."

Gravatar So there is a slide on a Pentagon/CENTCOM report stating violence is up this month (Oct). NO KIDDING!!! Unless you did not realize, there is a pivotal election in the USA this month. The terrorists do not want a strong US policy because it is killing them. It is amazing that I can look at press releases from terror groups and they sound just like democrat talking points!! Does it not bother the left that the terrorists agree with them??

Why are the terrorists and the Iranians ramping up violence now? They want the left in power in the USA. They want a return to the 90s where America absorbed 400+ terrorist attacks EVERY YEAR and did NOTHING.

Add to this that the "sectarian violence" is based on tribal vendettas and revenge for 30 years of Saddam's rule and to the ignorant, there is nothing but quagmire. We are working to get these groups under control. “Peace Activists” like Code pink are bragging that they send money and supplies to them!!!! Can I make the point ANY clearer??

Add to this that the report the drive by left-wing posters are citing is ONE SLIDE on a high level overview. These briefings are BORING (I’ve sat through some). Everything that needs action is overstated, or else it is passed by. What about the other 500+ slides? What about reconstruction efforts? What about the increase in the numbers of Iraqis turning these guys in to us? I could on and on citing report after report, link after link.

Why do I even bother?

Gravatar And....silence.... "Drive by" complete. Expect new screen-name from new leftist poster Friday.
