My rule of thumb is if I have 2nd pair I need SOMETHING else in the hand.
Overcard, backdoor flush, runner runner straight, anything.
I also need to NOT have a coordinated board.
Another thing is if I'm goign to be in the hand and there is a bet ahead of me I'll raise it. The reason is to fold anybody else in the hand.
One small bet that takes out even one person increases your odds of winning the hand.
AT show down I'll put in one more bet unless it's it's obvious I'm beat.
For instance a 28K53 board and you have A8 is not worth a bet, but a board of 6JK47 and you have AJ it's worth it.
Bottom pair - auto fold.

Don't over due the PFR just for the sake of raising it.
I play weakish in the 7.5 to 8 range which MANY people will say is weak.
Remember - the reason to raise is to get $$ in the pot. That is not ALWAYS goign to happen with a raise.
Sure you lose control by not raising but you can always take back control on the flop if you hit.
For instance. In MP2 with QJs. I'll limp in. If 3 people call, thats great, if 2 call, and there is a raise, even better. Then I can limp raise or call along and see what the flop brings me.
But the key is getting money in the put with a hand that IF it hits can be a BIG winner.
If I would have raised and got 1 caller, now I have a dominated hand against a player that had good enough hand to call 2 bets AND, a tiny pot.
I believe there are times to be weak and times to be strong but the key is getting money in the pot and THEN if you hit ANYTHING, take control of the hand. Make THEM be on defense.

yeah, thats about how much ive been raising lately. if the table gets overly tight (which is often on AP) I will raise a bit more because the blinds are easier to take down.
what site do you play on btw?

I was looking at my PT stats and comparing them to yours. Pretty interesting.
I'm WAY tighter in the BB with 13% VPIP. I'm a (0.20) loser with 25.44 WtSD and 50% Won&SD
I'm also much tighter in the SB BUT you are crushing me!
23.8% VPIP (0.15) 28.15 WtoSd and 59.88% Won at SD.
Looking at your position stats I can se the problem. You are actually a 11% VPIP player which is rock like and I'm thinking easy to read.
I know if you were at my table and you were in a hand - I'm not going to be in it with you.
BTW - Poker Syndicate - the best kept secret on the web.

One more thing - I have NEVER been able to win at AB. I loath that place.
