What an incredible and brilliantly acted episode.
While we as viewers will never know, I think Alex committed suicide. His demeaner in his last episode; in hindsite, was the actions of a man who was comfortable with his decision. Happy that he had found a solution.
Very sad that he felt suicide was the answer...all too often these signs are missed, by friends and clinicians alike.

I kind of doubt that the choice of suicide was conscious. I suspect he let himself make an error and once he realized it, did nothing to stop it. The humiliation of a mistake and having to bail out would be terrible for him, so that death might seem more attractive.

Has anyone thought it might be possible that Alex did not have a choice concerning his death. Based on information in many of the sessions we find out about his serious heart condition and he has been drinking in bars and not taking care of himself. If Alex had a massive heart attack or passed out while in flight, this would explain why he could not be in control. Perhaps he was dead before the plane even hit the ground.
