You make an excellent point that had not occurred to me as I read the article--seek a therapist outside of your professional category.
I suspect that that the reason Buie didn't mention that possibility is that he wouldn't consider it an option. Although I know many psychologists who have been in analysis with a psychiatrist, I have not heard about many psychiatrists seeking treatment with psychologists. Likewise, I don't think I've known any clinical psychologists who've sought out a clinical social worker.
My analysis was with a psychologist associated with an institute founded to train psychologists. At this point, I wouldn't be comfortable in therapy with anyone associated with that organization. But we're fortunate to have both a Jungian Institute and the old Chicago Institute here and I could easily find someone suitable connected with either one of those organizations.

I have had a couple of psychiatrists come to see me -- they are certainly the exception. Crossing those professional boundaries is a deep turf issue.

Dr X, I believe there is also the Center Psychoanalytic Study.
Dr. Fuller, I don't think I've commented here before, but I really like your blog.

Sorry about the typo. "Center for Psychoanalytic Study" in Chicago.

Lu,
Sorry, I wasn't clear. That's the organization I wouldn't use because of my longstanding personal involvement.

Oh, I see. Sorry I missed your meaning. I've been meaning to get up to the CJ Jung Institute and learn more about them.

I wonder if gender is an issue in selection as well.
And I've often wondered how it would feel to have marriage counseling if one partner was a therapist and one wasn't.
