I would also like to add that Perkins came from a two room house in Ozen TX where he was raised by his grandmother. His parents (if I remember correctly) have both passed.
These are the type of things I like to hear about. A kid who works hard, and plays finally got his break and a chance to really make something of his life. It is so much better than hearing how a multi million superstar got stabbed because he was trying to nail Benzino's girlfriend in a night club, while his own girlfriend was one floor down.
But that's just my opinion....
Good point Ricky D fan. But why would the media write a profile of a hardworking intelligent and mature basketball player when they could tell you about Doug Christie's wife or Anna Benson? Come on dude, who cares about a great (developing) story like Kendrick Perkins when we can find out who is sleeping with Stephon Marbury's sister's wife's brother in law!!!
Nice writeup PO, you forgot to mention who Perkins is throwback muscle, I think Tommy may have got to him and instilled a 'Knock somebody down and then spit on them' type of attitude in the guy. I'm kidding about the Tommy part but this guy is hungry and it shows, He is also smart and can have a suprisingly deft touch. He'll get better, much better, and hopefully will be a 12pts 12reb type of guy for a stretch of his career.
nice job PO. I fully admit when I'm wrong, and I was about Perk when I said that he's destined to be a career backup. At very least he's going to be a hugely valuable backup, but I think it's very possible he turns into a 12/12 guy like willie suggests.
RickyDFan, I agree with what yr saying about the Perk story in general. It reminds me kind of Karl Malone's background in the backwood s of Louisianna. Can't wait till Perk gets jaded by NBA wealth and starts "hunting little mexican girls." hahaha. Benzino can't rap!
