thanks very much Willie, I think they deserved some bile after that bullshit we all watched last night. You were right about this team awhile back - with Pierce they squeak into the playoffs. I think they have the talent to be slightly better than a bubble 8th seed/high lottery team, but the coaching and use of personel is terrifying.
Ricky D - I don't think it's scary that it's Ricky per se, inasmuch as it's scary that we'll eventually have to pay him a lot of money. Who else on that team (al included) is likely to be a max guy in three years?

Who else gets a max contract?? Big Al should get an extension, something not maxed though by the end of this year. I don't know how contracts work, and don't really care to learn, but they can give him a five year extension now and lock him up at less than max $. Maybe GGreen gets some dough to stay around, but seeing as how he hasn't been activated yet right out of high school (like Kobe was) he probably won't command a max deal. Pierce will get on, but probably from a different team. Perkins won't, at least not on the Celtics (which I agree with, I don't think he is worth it). Allen probably has seen his last days as a Celtics. Banks is gone. West isn't tall enough to scratch my nuts, he won't be more than a journeyman. Greene could blossom, but will be capped in the neighborhood of 4 mil. Blount is balls deep in us for years, as is Raef. I don't think we need to go over Scabs and Dicky.
We just don't have a lot of "max" type players. Who is really going to be that good? Al, maybe. Gerald Green, maybe. Thats it. The rest of them team is either signed for the rest of the millenium or they will be dreaming about $3 million.
RDF, I think we're agreeing. My point was that if the general philosophy holds that you have one or two max guys per team, Ricky is now #2. I think last year most people would say that Al would eventually be a franchise/max guy, Tony Allen would be a Ricky-type contract guy and Ricky would be eventually expendable. Remember, his name was floated over the summer as well, just not as frequently or loudly as Pierce. It's just funny to me that he's now the one guy who they probably can't live without - thus, a max guy. Thus, kind of scary.
I think we may have to start a "Free Perk" blog, a la "Free Darko."
