The truth hurts ( and I don't mean Paul Pierce ). I consider to be myself an avid Celtics fan, but this season is wearing me out. The free agent signings, the lack of playing time for the young guys ( Perk and Marcus aren't that young anymore, both are in the league for three years now ), the lack of a plan, and a Coach who actually said in the Globe that he thought Scalabrine played great against the Jazz. Your assessment is spot on, and I really fear that until we get rid of Coc and some of the floatsam on the team, we are doomed to the mediocrity that you so ably have written about. Fuck Coc, Fuck Scalaburine, Fuck Morkunt, Fuck our 11-14 record, now let me go ask my wife if she wants to Fuck.

maybe you can get this published in McSweeney's?
I joke of course but it is things like what you wrote that make me sit here and think to myself; Why do I watch every Celtic game and 'hpe' for them to become good? I'm no kid who believes in local basketball stars because they just so happen to play for a city that I live in or close to.
I'm no basketball novice who is dumb enough to believe that sub .500 team is anything more than that. I'm educated enough to realize that just because a bunch of guys wear the same uniforms as a bunch of guys from long ago who happened to play the game at an extremely high level for a long period of time that it means there is some connection between the two groups.
It's obvious to anyone with a brain that this team as presently constituted will never be anything more than what they are. So why am I watching them again?

hahhahaha, that's so true Willie. The positive associations from long-ago stay with you your whole life.
I have no problem watching my team struggle, the part that pisses me off is the double talk from the top.
So I guess for me, as much as the franchise pisses me off, the team I root for is the Celtics, and the Celtics haven't misled us, it's Wyc and/or Danny. So even though they (the Celtics) suck and I'm (theoretically) smart enough to know better, everytime I see a Celtics jersey (especially in CT where there are few) I'm always like "yeah!" It's weird. When's the next game?

It's almost like a drug addiction; you know it's not good for you but you can't resist the temptation to stay involved with the Celtics. What pisses me off is the mistakes we keep making when we should know better. If decisions were made based on polling the fans we would not have Scalaburine or Dickau, Perk and Al would be playing more, and Coc would either be gone or have undergone a drastic change in coaching style and strategy. When the bloggers are smarter than the brain trust, something's wrong.

I don't mind watching them struggle either. The Celtics seemed to be caught between three sports business models by emmulating the local teams. On the one hand there is the Patriots who do everything right and keep their mouths shut doing it. On the other hand are the Red Sox who do half of everything right, can outspend all but one team and can't keep there mouths shut, then there is the Bruins who just suck in all facets. The Celtics ownership desperately wants to pretend they belong to the in the first category with the Pats while remaining fan friendly like the Sox but instead they are more like the Bruins. With one elite player and the inablility to assemble anything around that player.
I'd be happy if they just fired Lucky the Leprachaun even if they only won 15 games this year.
btw/ Your writeup was fanstastic.

T'was the night before Christmas
And all through the arena
The ghosts of Celtics legends past
Couldn't believe we now have Veal Scalabrina
The players were hung, but had not a clue
As to the playing time they would get
With Coach Coc(adoodledoo)
The better you played, the more time you sat
Unless you were a vet, and you're contract was fat
And as Dr. Chestnutt roasted the situation with open satire
Celtic Nation prayed loudly there'd be some new blood for hire
No brain typing, or Reds' choice, or other godawful reason
Just guys who played their guts out for a championship season
Fuck Lucky, Fuck Coc, Fuck Wyc and the staff
With the way things are going, cut the prices in half
The only thing that carried us through the decades of gloom
Was the chance to be heard on the blog Celticsdoom
We were the only team without cheerleaders, and oh, what a pity
Why not give a fella a break, and let him look at some titties
And as the Garden closed down, and they turned out the light
Greg Dickerson said Merry Christmas to all, and to all a good night.

hahahahhahaha LOLLOLOLOL... Tittyfuck, that is fucking incredible. I don't know what to say, except, if this world was a fair place that would be published on the front page of the Herald. That's a great Christmas present to wake up to. I'll be laughing all day. "the players were hung..." hahaha.
Merry Christmas to all you sick fucks.
