Wow...kinda makes me wish I could have heard JoJo on these last two broadcasts. DirecTV has given us the "home team" feeds for the last two games...a refreshing change from the usual Celtic Fruit Punch that Gorman and Friends usually shove down our throats. Last night, "Thunder Dan" Majerle was all over Pierce's case...saying, despite his talent, Pierce isn't a guy he'd have on his team due to his piss-poor attitude. And at games end, when Pierce failed to reach the 30-pt plateau for the seventh straight game, Thunder smarmily uttered "couldn't happen to a better guy." Wow...did Pierce bang his sister or something???
Man, if missing Wally will give us more Gerald Green face time, let's just get Szczhitsu scoped and shut his milky ass down for the year, eh?
Despite what all the CocLovers are chirping about, these last two games do more to besmirch Shits' coaching acumen than bolster it. Being a retarded ass, the less thinking Coc has to do, the better. Thus, with limited personnel, Coc HAS to play guys like Gomes and Green - in other words, people he SHOULD be playing and developing...and even giving us a chance to win once in a blue moon. But, as the Good Doctor hinted at in his post, a classic clusterfuqq will ensue once Al and KP return. Coc will have no clue - again - who to play and we'll see all this inspired b'ball and the effective rotations go down the drain quicker than a toilet full of loose butt mud.
I thought the same thing about Green, Dr. He doesn't move at all. He's totally lost without the ball, but with it, he knows what to do. Fotunately, you can teach the former.
If only the Celtics had a good teacher.

Don't worry too much about Green. He is so young, you really can't expect 19 year olds not named LeBron to come in and dominate. Green is going to be one hell of a player if we don't give up on him. I can see him being able to rival Kobe (yeah, I know it's a stretch) in a few years. From the scouting reports and his range and talent he should have no problem being a serious offensive weapon.
The problem is the Celtics organization will probably package him, Al and a frist rounder for Boozer. Or something equlally as ridiculous. Green will go on to win a Finals MVP award and be in the running three years in a row for the league MVP and Al will be his side kick as they fill up their hands with rings. Billups, Wallace?

thanks for the nice words Shits and RDF. Shits, I couldn't agree more that this whole injury thing has shown how clueless Doc is as a coach. I mean, the Gomes thing alone, didn't someone in the organization realize that the dude can play? Imagine if we'd started this season with Gomes starting and Ricky coming off the bench, no Blount and lots of Perk/Al. I'm not saying we'd be contenders, but it would have been a far better picture. Also, I wish I could have heard Thunder Dan shitting all over Pierce. It just goes to show how precipitious a drop Pierce's reputation takes the minute you exit Boston.
RDF, you called it with Gerald long ago. He has definite weaknesses in his game, as would any 19 year old, but fuck, as you've been saying we might as well throw him out there and see what he can do. I try not to get too excited about people after a single game, but at this point he might as well get Tony Allen's minutes (when WS gets back) so we can see by the end of the season if he can be a real contributer in 06/07. Or, as you wisely opine, mere trade bait in a horrific Ainge fit of pique.

Stnx, keep remembering the kid is only 19. Kobe looked like shit his first year as well. I might be jumping to conclusions on him a bit too early, but at least it leads to a brighter future. Watching Pierce's skills erod, Wally decay into a criple and Raef just shatter into pieces over the next five years doesn't get me excited to watch any more games. Ever. Green could save the franchise, and with a name like Green, he fucking better.

No surprise we weren't involved in any trades. Clearly, ownership would like to have the Olawakandi contract expire and save money, rather than take on another player. The rest of this season should be a grim parade of losses mixed with false hope until the inevitable mid/late-lottery pick nets us a player none of us have ever heard of.
Yeah, Pierce's reputation drops outside Boston, except among people charged with guarding him. He literally made Kirilenko cry after the Jazz game, if reports from the Salt Lake City Tribune are to be believed. Did Marlerle ever have to guard Pierce? If so, I imagine his legendary Thunder more closely resembled a Queef.
Pierce will still go down as one of the best Celtics of all time. People have a real short memory and the stat sheet counts for more than anything else. If they only reflected on Bird, Russell, or my favorite player (non-Celtic) Oscar, they would realize that these guys playing now aren't doing it the right way.
I guess the nickname Dan "Cunt Fart" Majerle didn't pass muster with the announcers. Elvis, you may have awakened Jerky on this one, so I'll leave the vitriolic Pierce-hate to him. Generally speaking however, I think it IS fair to say that Celtics fans overvalue Pierce, at least in the sense that they believe him untradeable or that he's a true franchise player. I agree with RDF, his numbers will ensure his immortality with the franchise, but his legacy is really kind of blah. If he'd had the opportunity to play with a real point guard all these years, admittedly, I'd probably think a lot more of him. But that said, it's amazing that Chris Paul can come into the league and pretty much single handedly turn a team of dogs into a winner. That's something you cannot overvalue. That's a guy who makes shit happen. Pierce is not that guy.
I'm not arguing that Pierce is an MVP or a franchise savior. But he is a really, really, really fucking good baller. And for a pussy like Majerle to bash him and claim that he wouldn't have him on his team is just stupid.

Pierce has a reputation throughout the league as a front-running prick. His antics during the World Championships and last year’s playoffs reinforced the notion that he’s a whinny littlie bitch. After the embarrassment that was that Championship, Pierce and Baron Davis became synonymous with the selfish USA NBA player, which was exacerbated on the world stage because of the European and even Latin American superior teamwork.
Considering that Pierce is the type of me-first player USA basketball was supposedly trying to get away from (Bruce Bowen!!), it is a shock and a mistake that he would even be considered. International basketball takes passing, spacing and teamwork, three qualities very low on Pierce’s list of priorities.

RDF - we can't access the forums section, when you click on it, it says "you've been banned." Jeff was nice enough to let me put a couple posts on the regular page comment section awhile back, so I think as far as that goes, he has to approve it first. It said "comment awaiting approval" or something like that when I posted it. That would suck if you got banned though.
