Ricky was 4 for 16 the other night and is shooting 40% from the field since the trade.

I didn't mean YOU Willie. And I'm not shitting on the trade, I think getting rid of Blount was worth it, and I think a Ricky/PP partnership is just as doomed as PP/Wally. It's more just a comment on the lemming-like mentality of Celtics fans who buy into whatever plate of nonsense ownership serves up. Ricky and Paul, Ricky and Paul, yay! Now Ricky's a fuck up and competed with PP for shots. Whatever.

They have of course been fun to watch of late and they've won some incredible ball games thanks to the play of Pierce and Gomes. Still, I find it a bit humorous that portions of the fanbase are jumping up and down and the front office is now in 'We're marching to the playoffs!' mode after two nail biting and lucky wins.
During the course of the season almost every team, unless you are the absolute worst team in the league, will go on a streak like the Celtics have had. The play has been better, better ball movement, fewer turnovers (except the last two games), much better overall basketball etc.
It's a small sample though and it still only reveals a team teatering around the .500 mark.
In short they are not that good, Ainge knows it, Pierce knows it, anyone not blinded by the randomness of the NBA season that affords a good stretch to every moderately competitive team knows it.

Exactly Willie. Your post should be required reading for every Celtic fan.

You mean they aren't the number 1 team in the league??? Son of a b...
Come on guys, two more wins and we can get swept by Detroit!

Also noteworthy is the fact that the two lucky nailbiter wins were against other mediocre teams with terrible coaches. Basically we are capable of beating our doppelgangers half the time.
But fuck it, I'm a fan and I want to make the playoffs and I think it's totally possible. I'm more excited right now than I've been all season. Having hope is fun, regardless of how misguided that hope may be.
Mmmmmm, the Kool-Aid is delicious, Reverend Ainge! What's your secret?

ha, "beating our dopplegangers", that's fucking great.
Yeah, I'm really enjoying watching this team too (outside of Scalaburine), I just feel our duty here is to act as a check against over-optimism. But this team is totally likeable, even as they rapidly approach their potential ceiling for this season, unlike the OBrien teams which were going nowhere and were a chore to watch.

I just threw up in my mouth. For all of you who can't read the message boards, here's a sampling:
why would anyone kill you for saying pauls larry like. hes not larry like hes paul like because not even larry legend has done what pierce has done of late and god knows what he'll do by seasons end.
Actually, Paul Pierce IS playing BETTER basketball than Larry Bird.
He's may be the best natural scorer in Green ever.
joing Bill Russell, Larry Bird, and Red Auerbach as the most important people in the history of the franchise.
As far as C's history goes, Pierce needs his own column, because he is just unlike any of the other greats

Just for the record... I disagree. Bird is one of the top players in the history of the game. While Paul is fucking awesome right now, he isn't a top twenty guy in history. In my opinion...

oh my dear God no. That's absurd. Would these same people say that Gilbert Arenas is better than Pierce because he's had a more consistent seasons statistically? Nooo, no way they would
Bird won games. He turned a lottery team into a 60 win team in his rookie season. Pierce is a solid Celtic, MAYBE top 125 all-time NBA player, but probably not. If Charles Barkley is viewed largely as a failure due to his lack of a ring, what the fuck should we make of Pierce? I'm throwing up on my shoes right now. Thanks for posting it though, it reminds me that I have a purpose in the world.
