Since I am technically on vacation, I haven't looked at C-blog all day (not having two computers in front of you all day, you sort of forget about the internet). I am just hoping that this loss exposes the pathetic team that we really are, and stops making people think we are one role player away from winning it all.
Sad game... it doesn't look easier coming up either. Let's look forward to a bunch of "emotional victories" and "solid performances" that are actually losses to decent teams.
Raef just sucks. At least when Blount went 10-3 (though he did average 12 points), he attempted to get to the line and maybe get the opposing big-men to foul every now and then, which would have really helped in this game. This center-chucking-threes thing with Raef is ridiculous. And obviously, it didn't "spread the floor" for Pierce as Celtic-apologists would like us to believe. I also think if the Cs had played 2-3 zone all time and let Blount just stand there in the middle like Raef does now in his so-called "stealth" resurgence, Blount would have been fine on defense too.
Will Scalabrine play the good soldier and volunteer for the part of Timothy Treadwell?

I don't know if I should laugh at the depths of stupidity that pervade Celtics fans or cry because it's depressing to know that the fan base could be so dellusional about something as clear cut as this Celtic team.
Jeff wants us to know that we can forget about this team 'tanking'. Thanks pal, they are a lottery team with some of the worst team defensive statistics and less than mediocre team offensive statistics with a superstar surrounded by two max contract broken down white stiffs but they are promoting a 'culture of winning'. Give me a fucking break. On one of the mailing lists there is some discussion of WHEN they become that 50 win team how will they then win a championship. This team can't even win 30 games and people are worrying about a fucking championship?
Then there is the 'WE CAN'T TRADE AL!!!' camp who seems to still think that because this guy has had a handful of GOOD games in the NBA that he is the piece to a championship puzzle.

shit, I forgot my point; People actually believe those stupid fucking ads that they show during Celtics games 'Heroes are drafted in the second round' and 'Wally has brought a culture of winning'.
yeah, those are the most cloying and patronizing ads I've ever seen for a sports team. To me they seem like a WNBA commerical. All that Delonte bullshit and those cheesy keyboard swirls in the background, it's as if we can be shamed out of believing what we see on the court. The "Hope" commercial was the naidir. If we had a responsible version of CelticsDoom that had access to Tivo and loads of free time, that should have been preserved for eternity, just to show how low product promotion has sunk in the Wyc era.
As for Celticsblog, it's just disapointing to me that real voices of dissent don't last there. I think Jeff is even-handed in his assesments of the team (and wisely unapologetic about his emotional attachment to the team and the way it colors his perception), but the scene there with the commentators is more about celebrating their own fandom than it is about rationally assessing the team. That's the one thing that shocked me when I started posting on the internet, the real unwillingness of fans to tear apart an organization with gaping flaws, and the greater desire for fanboys to coalesce. What we do here, to me, is fairly obvious. I'm surprised there aren't tons of sites like this all over the internet.
In general I agree that celtics fans have a tendancy towards the hysterical (I am guilty as anyone else), but i think a lot of has to do with a simply inability to see beyond the short term. the celtics put together almost a month of wins and good losses in a row, and people noticed. (good losses meaning losses that make you mad that we lost, not mad that you're a fan of this stupid team.)
Memphis, however, was reminiscent of a blout-era loss. that was brutal.

Also, Willie, don't discount Al. He shouldn't be traded. The kid is raw, but he is fresh out of a shitty high school and has had jack for real training here in green. Think about the young guys we gave up on quickly, Ben Wallace, Chauncy Billups, Joe Johnson??? Ring any bells?
Al won't peak for another 3 or 4 years. About the same time Perk, Green, Greene and Gomes peak. Keep them surrounded by West, Allen and Jones and you have a championship. All solid players with 4 or 5 years of continuity. That's how Detroit does it. Don't trade them away, just get rid of the overpaid white guys with bad knees. If we trade the youth to add a veteran we shall be destined to dwell in mediocrity for the next decade.

WPDK - thanks for coming by, I thought your lengthy comment on Darko about the guilt of the Boston fan was superlative. I think for us here, the FSN bullshit and the general deceit of the Wyc/Ainge era is what produces the venom. I WANT to be swept away by this squad and Ainge's vision instead of frustrated by it, but both reactions come from caring about the team. Like, as much as I trash this notion of cutesy Delonte super-Celtic, he's still my favorite player to watch. What is unbearable are those "hope" adverts and the pig headed optimism of those who would have us swallow all that nonsense whole. I love when smart people lose themselves in the illogical passion of rooting for a sports team, and, like you, are able to articulate your blind spots and acknowledge the arbitrariness of it all - I just happen to value dissent just as much. (and, I would gather, so do you).
