Nice piece... Extra points for the Mamet references... Heist is an underrated movie. His wife is pretty hot too...

I'm glad you picked up on Tommy's newly awakened sense of self. Not only did he criticize Scal (who Tommy, at the start of the season, effusively pledged was going to "really help this team") but he also criticized Paul "Legend" Pierce for napping while Duhon sized up a three for a seeming eternity after an inbound pass. I guess Tommy will have to be fired like Cousy for being overly critical.
As for Wally, though, taking it as a given that this team is committed to not playing defense, Wally's offense has been excellent overall and occasionally astounding. I'll give him a break tonight for only being pretty good.
One more thing. It was great to see the "Percolators" in the audience: young people actually wearing Celtics shirts that don't have #34 on them. Perk played great and should be starting. Unfortunately, Doc has to save Danny's face by continuing to start Raef everyday, so we might be fooled into thinking Raef is worth maybe 25% of his salary. And then, of course, they have to run the first few offensive plays of the game for Raef to make sure he gets into the box score (because he certainly can't find his own shots) and to try (and ultimately fail) to convince the opposing team to cover Raef out there at half court and, preferably but not very often these days, put a big man on him to theoretically "spread the floor." I noticed the Bulls had 6'7" Nocioni on Raef for several possessions, which leaves Deng on Pierce and Sweetney on Gomes. Gee, that's a plan that'll really make a significant impact. I'm sure Raef's a nice "character" guy, but boy does he suck, especially at $60M. Play Perk!!!

Pierce was awful. I'm a Pierce fan/defender but any of the ridiculous fanboys that make any comparisons of Pierce to Bird just need to watch that 4th quarter. If Pierce is a better 'scorer' than Bird than no way in hell does he try to go 1 on 4 with 3 solid outside shooters standing wide open waiting for the ball as Pierce throws himself into the teeth of the defense.
But what do I know, this season was a sucess apparently.

ps. What's with the freeze out of Gerald? It's been going on for a couple weeks now. He stands wide open and they refuse to give him the ball even though he's usually the best scorer on the court.

I had been wondering the same thing about GG. My only guess is that it's because he is a teenager? I have no idea really, I bet he can out shoot 80% of the guys on the team.

I agree: GG needs to get some experience. Why not let him play if, according to disingenuous Danny, we're not worried about Ws and Ls for the next eight or ten years. I think it's an interesting job-security/self-preservation program to draft guys who are working their way through puberty and then convince everyone that you shouldn't be judged by Ws and Ls for the next decade or so. Danny should run for office.

RDF, nice to know of another Rebecca Pidgeon fan. She's British, which is kind of weird when you see her in DM's movies. IMO Heist is the most underrated movie of the past 10 years, Spartan close behind it. "that bible stopped a bullet, would of ruined that fucker's heart. And had he had another bible in front of his face, that man would be alive today."
Anon, "newly awakened sense of self" hahahahahaha, perfect. Yr point about Raef is very well taken - get him in the box score early so Daddy Ainge doesn't look too foolish. I think if Raef was making the mid-level exemption we'd all probably like him a lot more. The other thing about Raef is that he's Pierce's buddy and I'm sure part of the reason why he continues to start is that PP feels more comfortable with him on the court. Also, Paul is a 3 point junky, he believes in the shot, and believes in others taking it, he thinks of Raef as reliable from there and likes kicking it out to him.
Willie, I was actually going to speculate on whether or not GG was getting frozen out (a la Delonte/Banks last year), but I figured I was being paranoid. It is weird, like, the one thing we know the dude can do is shoot, so why not run the play for him? I mean, are we really at the point where Orien Greene and Brian Scalabrine are higher level participants in an internal pecking order? Unbelievable.
I checked out Celticsblog from a non-banned IPS and saw some of the comments about the Heinsohn piece after RDF posted it. I am particularly fond of the guy saying that I'm the biggest idiot on the internet. I'm not saying the piece was perfect, but I really wonder sometimes what it is these people think they're protecting. 29-42.

The Vonnegut line keeps coming back to me in regards to celticsblog and the fanboys; we are what we pretend to be. Where I see a firebombed Dresden when I look at the Celts, various fanboys look and see a shining city on a hill.
There seems to be ample evidence that celticsblog posters are a green goo.

Big props to Mamet for using Delroy Lindo too... He is good (and don't call him the help).
Speaking on the help comment, I think your article on C-Blog got removed. I got another email in my inbox, but haven't opened it yet.

Ha! Tony Allen goes spastic on Orien and breaks his will within twenty minutes. Orien, recognizing the need to capitulate, will introduce new shades of meaning to the term "unforced turnover."
What the fuck is up with EHmonroe? Is he a disgruntled Marcus Bank fan from last year? Actually, I think he's this fuckhead from Celtics Nation who Jerky used to fight with. 29-42. I am the stupidest person on the internet. Go fuck yourself.

yeah, I still don't see what player it's going to be that makes us any better. I swear, Turkgulu is going to be a Celtic next year. And we shall all weep.
Signing Mike James would be a mistake, I think, he's going to demand the full on mid-year-5-year treatment and I doubt he's ever going to be that good again. I like him alot as a player, loved him as a Celtic, but he's playing out of his skull right now and I can't see him being an 18pt a game guy for us. Also, like Delonte, he's not really a point guard.
I went back last night and read more of those comments on Celticsblog. For some reason the ehmonroe thing I had read the first time (which simply stated that I was the biggest idiot on the internet) was now expanded, to include a highly lame joke where he said his pet bird (named "chauncey", ugggh, how lame) knew more about basketball than I. It was just sad. But Jeff was nice enough to defend me and I appreciate that.
I think it's funny that of that entire piece (which is certainly not a scientific document, it has flaws), the thing people are harping on is that little parenthetical aside about FSN being the only ones who use the Gorman/Heinsohn call. The point is not that FSN uses it, of course they would, it's that everyone else uses the CBS footage. I didn't give it much weight in the piece because I'm not sure how the liscensing works for NBA (like, are the original CBS broadcasts owned by CBS or the NBA? Would it be cheaper to get the Sportschannel footage vs. the CBS footage, etc) My only point was that most people associate Johnny Most w/the Celtics from that era, not Heinsohn.
Anyway, this whole idea of the team disciplining Orien Greene is high comedy. What's it going to be, pushups? A $50 fine from the lockerroom Kangaroo Court? Being forced to polish Lil' Wyc's leather jacket? The dude makes the NBA equivalent of the minimum wage and he was already on the short list for 2006/7 training camp casualty. Somewhere, Dan Dickau is smiling.

I was half way through writing a post to celticsblog making the point abou the FSN thing in your defense when I thought "What the fuck am I doing with my life?".
that munro guy is a dickhead.
As for Orien, I too thought the idea of Wyc disciplining him was high fucking comedy.
Hey Wyc, why don't you just shut the fuck up and hide until this team is at least at .500? I don't want to see you issuing edicts from on high as if we're supposed to give a fuck what you think about some shithead driving too fast. GO AWAY. Chief got caught with two pounds of grass, I don't remember and promises of a code of conduct then... You know why? Because the team was good and no one cares when you win.
So just shut up until you deliver and stop playing plantation owner you fucking loser.

"stop playing plantation owner" - TOTALLY. The whole thing has such an uncomfortable tinge to it, Lil' Wyc, the Billionaire's son, bestowing his benevolent discipline on the poor unfortunates. I am the farthest thing from being politically correct, but it just makes me cringe. It's like Dogville or something. I wonder if he believes that this is the sort of thing that will make Boston an attractive place for free agents.

Yeah... I can see Too Fast Too Furious just running over here to find a father figure in Wyc. At least then we'd have a point guard...
I didn't realize what the exact standing was until I looked it up today on Sportsline. With everyone clamoring about the playoffs, and the 8th spot, I thought we were a 38 - 42 win team. We've got 29 wins. That is sad. There is only one team in the West worse than us. Bring on Hedo! Bring on Mikes James! Bring on some other obscure player / cult favorite and hope he really is the next coming of Michael Jordan.
