Nice... I am a little pissed off about the Ricky bashing. The one thing he always did was bring "it" on the court. We could be down by 35 with two minutes left and he was still hustling to get the ball. The only one hustling on some nights.
Yeah, he isn't Mother Teresa, neither are any of the other players in this league. I remember a certain shooting guard comlpaining about going to practice and never getting along with his coach. That guy doesn't get half the shit Mr. Triple Double (as the media referred to RD as). So fuck the haters.
Let's throw some win guesses out there for next season. Everybody seems to think that their team is going to be better next year. The reality is that there is an even number of wins and losses in the NBA. Statistically not every team gets better. In fact, most won't. If the C's mature and bring in a couple of real players they could flirt with 41 wins. If they regress and Pierce can't outperform again next season it is likely they could be at 27. It isn't really that far off.

continuing on what you guys were saying in the last comment thing, it's really fucked up how they (Rivers, Ainge, Wyc, Celticsblog) keep saying that the Celtics played better after Ricky was traded. I just don't see it, they had one good game before Wally got injured, but beyond that, it was just Pierce on a monster hot streak followed by the bathos of the last 20 games.
I liked Ricky, I didn't think he was untradeable, but I thought he was a good part of our offense, and he certainly worked harder on D than Pierce. I would have traded him to get rid of Blount and to get a PG. I can't, however, buy the bullshit that adding Wally/subtracting Ricky made us a better team in any concievable way on the court. The numbers just don't show it, as far as I can see.
You moving to CT RDF? Welcome to marginal-ville, aka, Middle Earth.
Early guesses on our record, assuming we do nothing beyond draft Marcus Williams, would be 36 wins. Firing Doc gets us to 40. Keeping Doc and trading a bunch of guys for some dipshit mediocre veteran gets us back down to 36. Firing Doc, keeping Pierce, trading for a dispshit mediocre vet, drafting Marcus Williams, gets us to 42.

They moved the ball better without Ricky, I'll give them that. they also were able to run a couple better sets and he wasn't dribble into a double team and throwing the ball away. the prevailing wisdom was that they'd cut down on the turnovers after blount and ricky were removed, didn't really happen. it's the system.
the other thing about davis is that he excelled with payton and he'd get the ball right where he wanted coming of the curl and he'd be able to go right into his shot, he also seemed to have more transition baskets last year.
i'm with you chestnutt, he was far from untradeable and was a useful 'chip' as people liked to say, to throw into a trade. the new bullshit pr spin that the team is somehow better because he's gone is absolute bullshit. rivers just can't shut the fuck up can he?

record wise, about the same, with doc stepping down, ainge getting fired and the whole thing blowing up in Wyc's face.
trade pierce and go for the number one pick, why the fuck not?
rdf hit the nail on the head with the zero sum game. who are the celtics going to magically take victories away from? they had some shitty teams they played 4 times each last year and couldn't muster 40 wins, next year they are going to magically be able to beat teams because they went through a training camp?
alot of the success rests on gerald green's shoulders.
lafrentz is cooked
scalaburine is worthless
wally is a 6th man
pierce is overrated (yep)
west is a serviceable 8th or 9th man
allen is about the same as west
perkins could be a starter defensive presence/rebounder or could just end up a goon.
the celtics are fucked. what do you think ainge thinks when he takes a long look in the mirror?

I hope he's not thinking Coc's a great coach, or Scalaburine and Dickau were great pickups. We need to get lucky with a really good free agent pickup and win the lottery tomorrow. If that doesn't happen, I'm changing my name to myassholesmlsbtrthantheceltix. Just thinking about some of the boner moves we've made is getting me pissed off, I think I'll go back and rip a big one right on the old bag's head tonight. She's in for a long year next season if things don't improve dramatically.

Willie, that's exactly right. The teams we play alot are getting better. Toronto will be better next year with Bosh and Villa playing together. The Knicks have to get better, they can't get worse. Philly might regress but those should balance out. O-town, Milwaukee, Washington and the Cavs should all have better records. Miami and Detroit will sacrifice some wins, but still be above 500. So if we don't get development from the young guns or make any drastic moves it goes backwards.
No problems with Ricky being tradable. But he was cheap. Wally is as freaking expensive as Raef. Over the whole life of the deal we save only like $5 million or something. I wouldn't have done it. But that's just me. If Wally's knees turn into Raef's knees I bet I won't be the only one saying this. Which is why the C's are putting the bad pr-spin on RD. Now it just looks like they got rid of "bad" attitudes. Rather than having people focus on the fact that Wally could be a huge bust and might never be "moving without the ball" again. Knees are pretty tricky, you fuck 'em up they might not play right anymore.

the Wally knee thing certainly presents a terrifying symmetry with Raef. That's $20 million a year riding on the bad knees of aging white men. Wally also can't rebound and I still don't see how they can defend quick backcourts with him and Pierce on the floor together. Again, trade Ricky in the right deal, fine, but Wally's
That said, there was an interesting thing somewhere (I think CNN/SI) about how some Celtics players were pissed off because they had been told at the beginning of the season that they wanted a tough run-and-gun team ("instigators" as Red would say), but now Wyc wants placid, fan friendly (ie: "white" or "Delonte West") "high-character" (ie: no max contract) types. That this obvious sop to the white/family Boston crowds is justified as on-the-court improvement is another Wyc-ian insult to our collective intelligence.
Also, about my predictions, I just think without Doc we pick up a few wins in some of the close games, allowing us to float to the top of the lottery pack. I think Philly, the Nets and the Heat are poised to worsen, agree that the Raps and Atlanta improve. The Knicks, who the fuck knows, but if they snag Garnett it could only spell more doom for us.
Willie, couldn't agree more with your assement of the talent. I too have nightmares about Perk de-evolving into a goon (as he almost did last year), but I think this year he showed that if he's shown that the team has confidence in him, he can avoid fouls and keep his head out of his ass. When Coc fucks with his head, however, is when he tries to do too much, like attempting to murder such gentle-hearts as Desmond Mason.
Myassholestnx, your wife deserves a shout out for all the fine comedy she has inspired from you on this site.

Danbury is okay and affordable, fairly close to NYC. New Haven's cool but it's about an hour and a half by train to Grand Central. The problem with that part of the state is that the small towns are generally pretty wealthy and expensive, and the bigger cities (Bridgeport, Stamford) are fucked up.

I console myself with thoughts of who is on the third team all nba.... jesus fucking christ who gives a shit that Pierce was beaten out by 15 guys for some stupid award that means nothing. do these people still worry about who was voted most liked in their senior year of high school? there are almost 15 guys who play tonight and tomorrow that I'd take before Pierce.
makes sense that they are no flogging Ricky in public for imaginary sins. Makes me wonder if Wally will have to miss significant time next year leaving Ainge and Coc to say "Our hands were tied, Ricky was a bad influence on inmate number 42 and our scrap heap backup pointguard who likes to drink drive and run from the cops.
I am genuinely shocked that Wyc is gettting no heat in Boston by the fans or the media. The guy is a grade a cocksucker who's done nothing but take a mediocre product and make it worse.

That's where we figured to be in the lottery.... Right at number 7. It doesn't matter who we pick anyway, because they aren't ever going to see the light of day. Green didn't play until the last 20 games. Whoever we draft won't either. We are too busy trying to felate Pierce and the white guys. Honestly are there teams with more white, overpaid, underachieving players in the league? Scabs, Dickau, Raef and Wally are $35MIL or so a year and not one of them is EVER going to play 80% of a season again.

Willie, the infinite Wyc honeymoon is incredible. Either these guys/gals of the Boston media are charmed by his two-tone leather jackets and prep-school anecdotes, or they've quit giving a flying fuck about the team, because he seems to have a perpetual free pass. Is there going to be an article in the legitimate media that points out how Ricky went from Team Cover Boy #1 to being run out of town over the course of 4 months? Ricky the Leader! Ricky the Reformed! Season Ticket Ricky! Now he's Ricky the Presumed Fuckhead. Ricky the Problem. This is how we're supposed to make Boston a more attractive place for free agents? With Wyc playing plantation owner and likeable mediocrity set as the new measure of Celtic Pride? Fuck them.
Tittyfuck, as always, Coc's excellent strategy paid off by winning that last game. Unbelievable.
I don't watch much college basketball, so I have no real opinion on this draft, but anyone have any thoughts on who we should pick at 7? I'm thinking Marcus Williams even though he's a thief, or maybe exactly because he's a thief, being that it's my abiding hope that Orien Greene is long gone and we don't dip our toes into the mediocre crop (crap) of FA PG's available.

To Jeff - I read this on Celticsblog: "Secondly, I guess whatever psychological test he took wasn’t as hard as the Brain Doctor’s evaluations." FYI - Brain Doctor sells snake oil. His work is modern day phrenology that discounts its own predictions (e.g - Brian Scalabrine). Ainge is laughed at by most credible GM's for being suckered into forking over $200K in consulting fees to this charlatan. He is NOT a psychologist. To quote the Boston Herald 2/6/05 "Niednagel has no formal background in psychology or cognitive neuroscience" He got his fucking bachelor's degree in finance. His work in "brain typing" has nothing to do with a typical psychological work out. I'd do a whole article on this but it just enrages me.

I agree with willie about the Cs desire to pack the stands with bloated fat asses from the burbs (rather than field a tough team that can win), but weren't the last dozen or so games of the last dismal season sold out anyhow? And now with a dance team, my gosh golly (as Danny might say), how many more Mormons can they fit into the so-called Garden? I think the fans might be even happier if the team gets rid of the actual basketball games (they suck anyhow) and, instead, maybe has a three hour promotional/advertising marathon in which the Mormon Tabernacle Choir sells SUVs and signs people up for credit cards emblazoned with the American flag. The players can stand by in their suits and shake hands while they talk to their stock brokers on their cell phones.

Guys... I think we can come up with our "Brain Evaluation" Company. All of the other GM's in the league can pay us and we will evaluate their players as well as their prospective draft picks. Not only will this pad our pockets, but we may get a say in who goes where...
At least we'd get some courtside seats at the Blazers game...

Rather than a brain evaluation ripoff corporation, I'd like to do Danny a favor and have a character evaluation ripoff corporation. I'll find out which white verteran players go to church and don't say dirty words and stuff, and then tell Danny so he can overpay them to create the kind of character and image that a losing team needs to satisfy its corporate sponsors and white suburban fans.
