Gravatar Well, Doctor, I had a much mellower reaction to the news. Although I will admit that trading for a point guard and then drafting a another one is... curious.

Anyway, LaFrentz for Ratliff is probably a wash, though Raef was useful in one or two games last year and Theo apparently wasn't. And you must admit that Telfair is an upgrade over Dickau. What I don't get is your fascination with Foye. I don't follow college ball, so I never saw him play. But I couldn't help noticing that he shot about 40% in college. That doesn't sound so great to me.

As for Marcus Williams, hey if millions of dollars can't motivate him to get below 14% body fat, I don't think anything will. There's a reason 20 other teams passed on him as well. Maybe he's the next Jason Kidd, but I'm willing to bet he's the next Jamaal Tinsley.

And Rondo, again I don't follow NCAA ball, so I never saw him play. I'll just hope for the best.

Gravatar I'm none too pleased. Mostly agree with Chestnutt's assessment. Ainge fucked up and is in the process of attempting to cover for a myriad of mistakes.

The attempts to compete this year after going through what was a rebuilding process is definitely because of front office pressure that is looking at slupping ticket sales and the franchise being all but irrellevant.

I have to say I'll watch a heck of alot more games next year than I would've otherwise because I am about at wits end with the Celtics and Iverson is must watch on a nightly basis. That said, I'll be watching alot less when they are at the same point they were last year three years from now. But they'll lottery bound and headed backwards instead of being able to build for the future.

It's really a move made by ownership that wants to recoup costs quickly and then bolt in about 4 years. Kind of like the Delk/Fatboy for JJ deal but on a much grander scale.

Gravatar OKay... While I think you are one of the more talented bloggers, I disagree with the Telfair assesment. The kid is still just that, a kid. He is a serious 1, and I've watched him turn games (albeit not in the NBA). At Rucker, the kid is a phenom. He doesn't score, but he he controls the entire game. He does play defense, and that may be a first on this team. His contract is essentially free compared to the rest of our players, and there shouldn't be any doubt that he is better than Dickau.

While Telfair is not the next Jason Kidd, he does have a very bright future as a point guard in this league.

Trading LaFrentz, gets us more money in the year Gerald Green needs to be signed. This is really really important. If the kid is nearly as good as the Celtics organization would have you believe, every dollar of that deal is going to be needed to sign him.

While I don't think this trade was a huge step forward, I definitely don't think it was a step backwards. However, I am completely ignorant to Foye and Roy, and don't know what they offer. Maybe we should have got one (or both). But, I still am pleased Telfair is our point guard of next season. He can do it... I know that much.

Allen Iverson is a whole different story though. I'll share my thoughts if it happens, but I don't think it will. For the same reason you just mentioned, Philly puts people in the seats. Do you really think Wally szcrsbzscscsdfdcxcxz and Chris Webber are going to fill up the stands? Hell NO! I wouldn't trade Iverson for anyone not named LeBron. Which will never happen... Therefore, I find it hard to imagine he gets moved. Danny might hope all he wants, but it might not be too realistic.

Gravatar Elvis - I agree Telfair is an upgrade over Dickau, but IMO it was not worth giving up on a chance to get a really solid 2/3 and open up our options down the line for a PP trade or a "trade the kids for an impact player" trade (sic). I just think a 33 win team is not in the position to not pick the BPA (sic, again). Telfair is not awful, but I don't think he has the size or strength or shooting ability to succeed in the pros. Just my opinion.

Willie - same old story with our man Wyc. I agree, I'll probably watch lots of games simply for the trainwreck factor, but that gets old quick. I know Iverson is a big draw on the road, but I don't see him being a consistent draw in Boston if the team sucks/is unwatchable. Iverson's time as a league icon has passed, most people want to see LeBron and Wade.

RDF - I respect your take on Telfair, and I admit, I've only seen him in a few games as a pro, I just have a natural disinclination towards short pg's who can't shoot. Also, I hate this whole deal where Ainge fixates on certain players and pursues them forever thereafter, regardless of their actual value. As for the money side, I am just of the mind that if this ownership group wants to win a title, they better open up their wallets, and to let GG slip away 3 years from now because we had one year left on Raef's deal... it just reinforces certain ideas I have about what that group is really trying to do. Like I infered and as Willie stated, I think they cut and run in 3 years when salaries fall off the books and the team is all the more attractive to a potential suitor.

Gravatar I think the ownership sees this team as an investment they are trying to get a return on. It's too bad we don't have some like Mickey Arison or Mark Cuban up there.

Danny or Wyc or whoever had done a pretty good job of fucking our salary cap for the later years. Moving Raef is really a step in the right direction. Especially if they want to resign Pierce.

Gravatar I think how it works is that they get less for the team the lower the salary. That's one reason they'll try to get IVerson and then put PP on a max deal, it won't effect them short term but long term the team will be more expensive. Look to them to sign another overpriced veteran just before they sell a la Vin Baker while any young developing talent walks away.

I don't like Telfair at all and I am inclined to have a soft spot towards NYC point guards.

Ainge has really stepped up the bullshit alot in the last few days. Remember the "we're one player away" stuff after the Wally trade? That'll seem like peanuts if they get AI.

The Celtics are truly fucked, they got scammed by not getting Roy, who I guarantee will be twice the player Telfair ever will be.

Great point about Bird's approach in comparison to Ainge.

The smart move would've been firing Ainge last year and trying to get Colangelo. For a number of reasons Wyc, Doc, and Ainge are like three pilots in a plane that's crashing and none wants to admit it. So they sit there, protecting their precious egos, telling themselves and everyone else it's all going according to plan instead of just hitting the eject button.

Gravatar yeah, and I think that's why the move pisses me off. I think it was another marginal trade made in the name of saving money moreso than having anything to do with putting a good team on the floor. The Rondo trade, to me, makes it all apparent that Ainge has no real plan for this offseason - from what he says (and doesn't say) Telfair either is our pg of the future, a backup for Delonte, or he's trade bait for Iverson. Ditto w/Rondo. The only thing we know for sure is that Wyc saved $12 million in the deals, more if you include the guarenteed deals for the 7th pick and next year's pick. Now he can resign his hero Pierce and get his picture taken with him in the Boston Improper. If he gets Iverson, then he can pretend to be a real big-boy NBA owner and show off to his hero Mark Cuban about how he too will do all it takes to win. Fuck him.

Gravatar I didn't see yr post before I posted Willie, but "The smart move would've been firing Ainge last year and trying to get Colangelo" is so goddamn true. Hire Ainge as head scout or something, but put the real decisions in the hands of someone else.

I thought it was that a lower payroll helped make the team more attractive. They saved $1 million in the Baker deal, which at the time I thought was why they did it. I'm probably wrong.

Wyc, Ainge, Coc, Leo - Theo and the Trio they ain't.

Gravatar Don't forget Diamond Dave Wallace.

you might be right. I always thought since they didn't own any assets but the team name and Healthpoint that the players and their salaries were about all they owned. So the hire the salaries the more they can ask for.

Gravatar did I really spell 'higher' - 'hire'.

early onset of alzheimers.

Gravatar The Boston Herald insists the Celtics remain in the hunt for Allen Iverson. Reports of a three-team trade (concocted by Boston boss Danny Ainge, I'm told, under pressure to get something done because of soaring ticket prices) were rampant leading up to the draft. Boston was prepared to send Al Jefferson, Gerald Green and No. 7 to Philly for Iverson and relocate Wally Szczerbiak in Utah, which was expected to drop off Carlos Boozer at Philly's doorstep. According to sources, the Jazz refused to play along. - New York Post

I am so glad this didn't happen... It can't be true, that would be the worst thing I've ever heard.

Gravatar it'll only get worse. Wait till Billy King drives the price up by playing Atlanta against us, and Wyc gives the "get AI at all costs" mandate. It'll be Isiah-ian in its epic fuckupedness.

Willie, I'm just shocked you didn't notice the Guy Maddin reference.

Gravatar I'm really stupid the past few days you'll have to excuse me.

google "Guy Maddin - Sissy Slap Fight'

Gravatar I imagine i'ts what Wyc's dad says when he leaves Wyc, Doc, and Ainge alone for the weekend.

Gravatar hahahaha, I've never seen that one. Wyc sez, "Guy, it's like you filmed my dreams." Doc Rivers set to star in radical restaging of Krapp's Last Tape! It doesn't matter that he doesn't know the script, Doc can free improv idiocy. Beckett arises from the grave and says, "I couldn't make less sense if I tried... and believe me I did!"

Gravatar Grain upon grain, one by one, and one day, suddenly, there's a heap, a little heap, the impossible heap.

I can't be punished any more.

Endgame is just some spectacular shit.

I truly love that play,

Also love the text "sans (without)"

Krapp was constipated, Doc has diahrea of the mouth.

Gravatar ha! yeah, that is the distinction. Doc is perhaps more suited for an improv rendition of Rabe's Hurlyburly.

I played Hamm once in a shitty college production of endgame. It was awful, but all I remember about it now was that the guy who played Clov was missing a leg in real life, and that's why he was cast (for the limping). I was cast as Hamm because although I was 19 (and looked younger) and weighed like 125 pounds, I had/have a deep voice. It was an example of myopic utility that reminds me of how Ainge has assembled the Celtics roster.

Gravatar Ahh...this makes for fun reading. I especially enjoy the comments about the incredible spin job the organization puts on this shit. I don't know how you guys can stand to watch it. Danny is so fucking disingenuous I can't stand to listen to him for a minute. Maybe it's possible Telfair will be good someday, but as far as I can tell he's been a complete disaster so far. And this back-stabbing shit about RickyD is just plain shameful. I think it's time for Tommy and Mike to step down.

Now that Raef is gone will Gomes and Al have to "earn" minutes to start over the Great Scalabrine in Coc's so-called "system"?

Anyhow, RAEF IS GONE!!!! WHOOHOO!!!

Gravatar thanks anon, I'm totally sick of the spin, and I think it's under reported. I used to love Gorman, but yr right, he and Tommy have overstayed their welcome.

Anyone think Mitch Kupchak looks exactly like (and kind of sounds like) Jim Jarmusch?

Gravatar Mitch Kupchak looks like what the byproduct would be if an owl fucked a sheep.

Gravatar Danny says he's gonna stay out of the free agent market...wish he'd of felt that way last year. I kind of feel like we're a ship without a rudder, we seem farther away from #17 then ever before.

Gravatar Apparently there aren't any fat white guys who suck at basketball available this year.

Gravatar Yeah, and then we can package them with good players and/or first round picks and the guys over at C-blog can write each other about how smart Ainge is.

Gravatar I just read a post at Celticsblog that blew my mind. It was a guy saying that the "legion of gloom" should apologize for ever doubting Ainge. I'm... I'm not sure what to say.

So TJ Ford, a legit PG (albeit with injury problems) gets traded for Charlie V. I don't believe in speculative trades, but with all the "assets" (I hate that word) we've traded in the past few days, I find it hard to believe we couldn't have offered a better package.

Gravatar I for one am sad to see Orien Green leave, but since he left he'll probably go on to be the next Joe Johnson, instead of fading into obscurity like Kedrick Brown. Doc totally fucked him like Banks. I can't imagine Rondo being better than OG. At least OG let you play with an undersized SG at the point.

Gravatar Dr, TJ Ford is exactly who I would compare Telfair to. Telfair is more raw, but has stronger physical attributes. If you give Telfair one more serious season, with actual coaching and intruction, you'll have TJ Ford. Too Fast came into the league too fast, and could have benefitted from a couple years in a big time college program. It's unfortunate that he didn't get the right coaching in Portland (and he most likely won't get it here either).

As for available fat white guys who suck at basketball - DANNY CALL ME!!!! Where do I sign up for this gig? Please?

Villa for TJ is seemingly a precursor for a departure of Magliore (if he isn't gone yet). They are going to need some front court depth. Villa and Bogut keep them young and pretty solid for the next 3 years (before they both start getting paid).

Gravatar RDF - I agree, I actually made that comparison in conversation earlier today about Telfair and Ford, saying something along the lines of "we could have had the guy Telfair will turn into if he's lucky." I know you think more highly of Telfair than I, and I have to give you props because you were the first person in our little gang here to praise Gerald Green, so I hope yr right about Bassy. However, I still think it sucks to trade a lottery pick for a guy that hasn't gotten it together yet in the pros. I've seen Foye play, and I think he give you something in between Wade and Tony Allen. As in, he's nowhere near as good or as bad as either of them, but he's a solid tough combo guard who's smart and can shoot. I still think it's a big question mark whether or not Telfair becomes as good as Ford (who has already played well in the pros for a winning team), and I guess I'd have taken the safe bet guy, and looked to trade for a pg later down the line when one became available. I guarentee we could have had Telfair for much less if we'd waited.

Gravatar Ford is 2 years and 3 months older... Let's give the kid a chance to catch up

Telfair should have gone to college though...

Gravatar THIS IS THE LAST TIME I'M MENTIONING AN IVERSON RUMOR!!

until the next time I post a photoshopped picture of AI in a Celtic uniform.

Gravatar this email from the Celtics mailing list is filled with so much innuendo I'm not sure what to do;

"Telfair is no ball-pounder. He was forced into playing that
way much as Kenny Anderson was during his tenure under
Obie, but his first instinct is always to penetrate before
the D is set. I only hope Doc (or Coc, as Celtics Doom
calls him) has the sense to take off the leash"

Gravatar hahahhaha! That must be Tittyfuck in disguise. People who sublimate their shameful sexual predilictions into basketball discourse are always welcome on this site. Celtics Doom "gets it" indeed...

Gravatar Hey, who do those perverts think they are putting their deviant sexual innuendoes into a basketball blog site? Cleaning your act up can't be any harder than me convincing the old bag once a year to let me put only the head in.

Gravatar tell her that you're a ball bounder just like Kenny Anderson.

Gravatar too busy at the moment to weigh in on (in any lenghty way) the Pierce stuff at celticsblog, but I find Pierce's arrogance amazing when he talks about playing for a title, as if he's one of the great NBA talents who play at such a level that they deserve this opportunity regardless of their impact (or lack thereof) on their own franchise. I mean, I got it with Barkley, with Karl Malone, even kind of with Payton. But Pierce is fucking Ray Allen-east, he's a really good offensive player who doesn't make his teammates better and whose career year guarenteed only 33 wins (okay, granted, without Coc it might have been 40). Even Bill Simmons, who apparently has his head far up Wyc's ass, only rates Pierce as #18 on his top-40 trade thing.

I don't know, I think sometimes that I have grown to hate the mindless pro-Pierce nonsense so much that it makes me unfairly dismiss Pierce's talent, but it really seems to me that without him, last year's team probably wouldn't have been all that much worse.

Gravatar Pierce must be so fucking envious of Antoine. Anyone read or heard anything about it?

With Shaq chucking three-pointers to "spread the floor" for Wade the Heat won a championship. Wow! Tommy and Mike really know their shit!

Gravatar Antoine's long wait for a ring reminds me of the three rings of matrimony: the engagement ring, the wedding ring, and then, forever after, the suffering.

Gravatar Good for 'Toine... He took a pay cut and got a ring. He also stopped shooting ten thousand shots a night. If he did that here, he'd probably still be in green, just not a champion.

Gravatar Toine was a fortunate passenger, nothing more. Replace him with Ryan Gomes and they still probably would have won the title. I bet Miami would love to trade him.

Good point anon, we're following a sound blueprint. Perhaps Heinsohn can compare Wally to Duncan and/or George Mikan at some point during the season.

Myassholstnx, hahhahahahhaa.

Gravatar I'm sure Tommy and Mike would say that Wally is a slightly better, tougher John Havlicek. Wally is a little bit better team player, scorer, rebounder, passer, prayer; he is slightly more handsome, a better ball handler, better on special teams, has more of the intangibles, more heart. He plays in pain nearly 70 games per season, and will probably be remembered as the second best Celtic ever, after Paul Pierce and only slightly ahead of Bird and Russell. Why wait? Let's hang Wally's number from the rafters now.

Gravatar yes! Let's hang it up there!

I hope his freaking knee breaks. Sorry... I still like Davis more. Watch for the Blunt man to have a career season. Or at least career games against us...

Gravatar Summer league play, Telfair had 6 assists! Just for the record, that's 1.3 more than Pierce's average, the highest on the team. Good start

Gravatar What day is the one year anniversary of us signing Scalaburine, so I can celebrate it by puking my guts out.

Gravatar RickyD Fan, don't miss the six turnovers that went with Telfair's six assists in his Las Vegas Summer (Kedrick Brown League) debut.

Gravatar Yes... Indeed. He turned it over A TON last night as well. Oh well... At least he tried to pass...

Gravatar I'm very concerned about Al getting in shape and his conditioning.

HAHAHAHAHAHAAHAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

get a fucking grip.

Gravatar I'm very concerned that Al might be a big fucking pussy.

Gravatar hahahahaaha. I'm very concerned that the Celtics fucking suck. Better sign Paul Pierce to a mammoth extension and put this summer in the running for "worst three months in the history of the franchise."

PS: Randy Foye sure looks good in the summer leagues.

Gravatar Curses, foyed again!!

Gravatar I'm a-foyed we got tittyfucked again.

By the way, I looked it up and the Scalaburine anniversary was July 6th, which sucks because it would have been nice to declare a day of mourning.

This whole Garnett thing is pretty funny. There is no chance he ends up as a Celtic, because unlike Iverson (who almost no one wants due to age, money and baggage), almost every team in the league would make a bid for him, and those teams actually have talent to give up. We have Rondo, Inmate 42 and 6 thousand second round picks.

Gravatar ESPN reports - "(Marcus) Williams, who shockingly fell to the 22nd pick on draft night, played as if he had something to prove Monday. He was on the attack all night in New Jersey's 86-82 defeat of the Orlando Magic, dispelling rumors he is out of shape.

The former UConn star made 9-of-15 shots and 4-of-5 3-pointers for a game-high 24 points. He also had 12 assists, many of them drop-off passes... for easy dunks.

But we have Rondo!!!

Gravatar So let's see, we've gone from Hondo to Rondo. Man, is the old bag in for a long season this year.

Gravatar What ever happened to PierceOverrated/jerkycsfan?? Did he drop off the writers circuit?

Gravatar Anyone catch that recap on the Celtics game? Telfair with 10 dimes, GG with a fuckload of points. The future is bright! AS long as we don't sacrifice it for KG/AI or some other aging fuckface. For some reason I can picture Van Horn and Laettner playing for us... And Gerald Green scoring 40 AGAINST us three times this season. Danny, I know you read this, be smarter than that!

Gravatar hahaha, I have my doubts that Danny reads anything, much less this blog.

Jerky/PO quit for various reasons and I keep pestering him to at least talk in the comment section but for now I guess he doesn't want to. I think he still posts at Celtic Nation however.

Gravatar are we too high brow for him?

Gravatar He doesn't think his asshole doesn't stink, does he?

Gravatar I hope he didn't promise not to post again until the Celtics win the championship, we may never hear from him again. Come back, Pierce Overated/Jerkycsfan!

Gravatar Hilarious quote found on Oregonlive.com:

"On the addition of LaFrentz: again, as Kevin Pritchard [a local media shmoe?] told us a few weeks ago, his ability to go outside is going to open the paint up for Zach and the guards..."

Yeah, right. "Spread the the floor," fucking idiots.

Gravatar This is the 1st time I have posted to this site. Just a few quick observations:
1.) Such negativity for a team which you supposedly are a fan of...why bother, the last great team was 20 years ago, if you hate the team/ownership/management that much, move the fuck on! The city is not asking for your "fandom" as much as you think they are. They will sell seats regardless. People are put in a position of power(sans-Isaiah) for a reason, they are proven. If you don't like the team, root for the Magic - negativity breeds low expectations.
2.) The team as assembled right now is not a contender, what the fuck do you expect? Paul Pierce is a great player. I agree the coaching is bad, but to have a great player like Pierce on a roster of unproven young players is refreshing. It truly makes games worth watching.
3.) Trade or no trade - this is an exciting team to watch. I don't live in Boston, never have. I don't take championships for granted. However, I do enjoy progress(believe it or not, the roster has progressed).

In conclusion, quit your bitchin and enjoy the ride. After all, it is just basketball.

Gravatar CT, we've come to expect more out of our hometown team. Some of us remember the Celtics being a legendary franchise, rather than "Those guys are still around" franchise we've turned into.

Gravatar Good post, celticsrtroopers. It's more fun if we don't always agree.

Here's my opinion on some of your points:

"People are put in a position of power for a reason, they are proven."

Assuming the huge contracts of Vin Baker (Chris Wallace) and Raef LaFrankenstein (Danny) proves only that these two are complete idiots that should be fired. If I did my job as poorly as Chris Wallace, I would certainly have been fired long ago.

"The team as assembled right now is not a contender, what the fuck do you expect?"

Uh, a contender?

"(believe it or not, the roster has progressed)."

Is this faith-based fandom? What evidence is there that the roster has progressed, other then the dumping of Raef's horrendous contract, which Danny idiotically assumed, and a few decent performances in the Las Vegas Summer League, a league in which even Kedrick Brown excelled?

"In conclusion, quit your bitchin and enjoy the ride."

Even if you're riding through somewhere you love, it's hard to enjoy it if the driver keeps slamming on the brakes and crashing into things, and the bus smells like someone took a shit in the back seat.

Gravatar "People are put in a position of power for a reason, they are proven."

People are put into positions of power for a variety of reasons the least of which has to do with being 'proven'.

Take for example the corrupt police official. I suppose it could be said that he or she has climbed to the top of the flesh heap because they were better at stabbing in the back, selling others out, and filling their grimy pockets faster and better than all the other fuckheads that started out the race with them. Their fingers are fast, their eyes are catlike in the ability to find the smallest crevice with which to slink their reptilian bodies through. So they end up with a full bank account and a bunch of dead bodies piled up behind them. I suppose that makes them 'proven'.

Gravatar CT - I agree with Willie, Anon and RDF's comments, but I would simply add that a large reason for our negativity is that these owners lie to the fans. Every year there's a new batch of bullshit coming from Wyc/Danny's mouth and every year the team sucks and fresh excuses are bred anew. Remember at the end of the season when Wyc said that the most important thing to him was that "the team has good character"? Now he's got a non-stop hard-on for Alan Iverson, a player about whom even his greatest supporters would never claim to possess anything resembling good character. It's just another in a line of bullshit lies that these idiots toss out to softheaded fans who think that rooting for a team means that you toss aside your demands for accountability and consistency. It's the mentality that is bourne out by the fact that after one of the worst seasons in Celtics history, Celticsblog has exploded with popularity offering little more than continual paens writ in Kool-Aide and we here, who predicted this debacle of a season, are continually maligned as idiots or psychos.

I guess I would close with this. I'm glad you wrote and I encourage you to do so more (it might bring Jerky back if he has someone to fight with), but why the fuck should we "enjoy the ride" when we see exactly where it's heading? And who are you to suggest we "quit (our) bitching" when all you have to offer is blind faith and unfounded optimism?

Gravatar blind faith is the quickest of all killers.

take that shit on the road make it into a circus act.
