According to the Liberal Party, this isn't all that important. That seems to be the clear meaning of the Liberal spokesperson's downplaying of how serious these remarks were, as he indicated that political blogs in general regularly cross the line. He misses the point, methinks. How many of them have (had?) the ear of the Prime Minister?
Spin is a wonderful thing, right? The worst of it is, they'll get away with it--again.
But a Liberal Veep not involved in an election campaign? Good grief. That one takes the cake.
To be fair, they only said he wasn't involved in an official capacity. They're parsing words - he was a volunteer, he wasn't involved in an official capacity - both are undoubtedly true. Equally true, however, is that he was a volunteer who apparently made a handsome living out of his volunteer activities, by parlaying them into access to the seats of power in Queen's Park and Ottawa. And his unofficial capacities, by some accounts, include being sent by the Prime Minister to take care of Sheila Copps, organizing Ontario for Martin, running at least one federal election campaign in Ontario and providing advice in this one. So it was disingenuous of the party to downplay his significance.
I wonder who the CP reporter was who got snookered on this story. Perhaps an intern or newbie, holding down the fort while the regular reporters took Christmas holidays off?
It doesn't matter. Liberals will carry Toronto's immigrant community no matter what Liberal hacks, quacks, bumboys or fart catchers like Klander say.
All they have to do is bring out the old harper is scary line and the ethnic communities will fold up like a cheap suit and get in line to vote Liberal once again.

Check ElectionsCanada website and run the CBC board of directors names through it to see why the CBC has largely ignored or downplayed this story.
Then look at the CRTC and how the major newspapers all have television channels that can be shut down or harrassed if they get to close to the truth about the Liberals.
Then pray for a truly independant media to emerge in Canada, pray hard, that is.
