You're taking the right approach - celebrating her life and the wonderful impact she had on yourself on others, rather than dwelling on the loss. We all have to go sometime - what's important is what we do while we're here.

Dawg,Marianne sounds like a wonderful person and you will miss her love and companionship greatly. You have made a wonderful tribute to her and have honoured her with letting us all know her, abet in this small way. Marianne was right on about the "organizational model" as we all live in community, and many at that. Life can be so unfair.

Our hearts break just a little today, my friend. So very sorry. As you know, my dad had the very same type of cancer 12 years ago with the same sad result. It is a horrible disease and we have both been touched by one of the toughest incarnations of it.
Thank you for sharing your thoughts and memories with us, Dawg.

Here when somebody leaves... as we reflect on our time with them, we sing a funeral lament, that says roughly translated "My life was made better and richer for having known you-thank you"
In what you wrote above...
It sounds like your "work" with each other was a success. I put work in quotes because I don't mean it in the western way. But the other way....the way thats way way way outside the box.
Bless the both of you and the kids. I am so sorry for your loss.

It is obvious to me, that you will carry her forward, pass her intent along and there is no better legacy that I can think of.

John:
I was very saddened to read about the loss of your wife, like others here I had hoped you would have better news on this for us, but alas it appears it was not to be. For that you have my condolences, my sympathies, and my prayers for her soul, your spirit, and those of her children in this difficult time. While I have not lost a wife/partner, I have lost close friends and family members and former lovers and one parent, and I know the pain that comes with it.
However, by your post here today you also show that you grasp the most important lesson in all of this. That being to celebrate the life that was lost instead of trying to run away from it and forgetting it, a choice I have seen others make and one I have never seen work in the end and only caused much suffering throughout. You though celebrate her life and have shared parts of that remarkable woman's life with the rest of us here, and I am so very grateful to you for doing so as well as letting us know that she was a contributor to your writings here, writings I for one had always found thought provoking, which is the best kind of writing to me.
I wish you and the kids well in this painful period, and I hope that while the pain never fully goes away that it is at least not too severe for too long.
Good luck to you and your family and to all those lives that were touched by Marianne's presence. The world is a poorer place without her but not as poor as it would be without you and the kids to carry on in and with her spirit.

Dr. Dawg,
I'm am very sorry to hear about Marianne's death. She was a "boon companion" on your life's journey, and you and she were blessed--and still are.
You will find as the months and years go by that love is stronger than death.
Death does not win, love does. Nothing conquers our love for our deceased loved ones or their love for us.
Rest eternal grant unto Marianne, O Lord, and may light perpetual shine upon her.

I can't even find the words to describe how sorry and saddened I am by your news. I wouldn't know what I would do if I lost my wife. But cherish the memories of the time you had with her - it's better to have loved and lost than never to have loved at all.
I'll say a prayer for you and Marianne.

I realize that this is something that you'll find premature at this point, but I, a close buddy, and my late wife's best friend all nursed our wonderful spouses until they died of this disgusting disease......we have all, some time later, found 'special' people...they are out there, and they are looking for their 'special' person.....you won't, you cannot, 'replace' Marianne, but although you won't believe it right yet, life does go on, and you owe it to Marianne to live it to it's fullest.
I'm remarried to a wonderful woman, but, once in a while, if I'm out walking on my own and I espy something that would have pleased my late wife, I'll say "Hey, didya see that"?

Politics aside, we, each of us, have to endure and survive our humanity first. Hopefully, she is in "that better place", as for now, you certainly are not. Seek comfort and solace in the arms and hearts of family and friends, and find the spirit and strength to rejoice in the privilege you were blessed, however brief it must now seem.
Do not let her go off quietly - let the world know she was here, for in your heart, she will be here forever.
