"But my question is--where are the bloggers on the other side of the room? Aren't they always yakking about how first nations should get educated and stand on their own feet?"
Ok, good point. Just to let you know, though, I did write on the Nisga'a agreement in the Western Standard (in favor of it.)

Thanks for raising this story. I think I might just write on this, too -- because, you're right, the government's treatment of aboriginals is and pretty much always has been deplorable.
Best,
Terrence

Thanks for the support and the post Dawg. Sorry for not including you in the email, as I was trying to hit up as many people as I could last night but because of Blogger related issues, I wasn't able to get your email address.

I could be wrong but aren't schools under provincial jurisdictions?
For the last couple years I've seen a very large number of schools, community centres, and other development across Northern Manitoba, Northern Sask, and Nunavut. I can't comment on Ontario though, I rarely do work in the province.

Reserves are under federal jurisdiction.

Dr. Dawg is right.... Schooling on reserve is federal jurisdiction, and not only is it under federal jurisdiction, they pay less per student. The per student funding on reserve in Ontario is about 3/5ths of the per student funding that the province of Ontario gives school boards.
