Gravatar " There seems to be no line in the sand that this gang of gutless Liberal wonders is willing to draw. "

Earth to Dawg ...

In case you didn't notice, we live in a right-wing-media dominated country. Dion must carefully pick the timing/mood etc. to hope to overcome the disadvantage of having "the media narrative" against him OR we will end up with a Harper majority.
The NDP helped put Harper there. If any blame is to be given out for the nonsense we've watched over the last 30 months ... the NDP come right after Harper.

Gravatar I refuse to call this a minority government any more; it's unambiguously a coalition government of the Conservatives and the Liberals.

The Liberals are getting the cover of so-called 'opposition' status to participate in enacting all the corporatist wishlist of policies they otherwise would have had trouble justifying, the Conservatives get a passive 'opposition' enabling their own ongoing attempt to become a viable alternative majority government option.

The rest of us just get screwed.

Gravatar Dion must carefully pick the timing/mood etc. to hope to overcome the disadvantage of having "the media narrative" against him

Good grief. How, precisely, will Dion's perennial moral (and physical) absenteeism improve the "media narrative?" Is he hoping that God intervenes with a thunderbolt or two?

Gravatar Isn't this what Pat Martin wanted? The Liberals "off the gameboard?"

Gravatar If you are taking nominations...CHRC

What's interesting is that while you are vilifying Harper from the left a lot of people on the right are appalled at his seeming inability to actually govern like a conservative. Program spending up, virtually nothing done to dismantle the bureaucracy, CBC still state owned and managed just as badly: sadly Harper is drinking the Mulroney bath water and governing like a mildly right of center Liberal Prime Minster.

Of course, as we know, what that leads to is an unraveling of the CPC coalition as socons and libertarians wonder why they would bother voting for a party which is nothing but the Liberal Party with slightly different graphics.

Gravatar Dr Dawg
"absenteeism" is just part of the narrative you've bought into.
Harper spin miesters will be pleased

ya play the hand ya get dealt, it ain't always pretty

CON/LIB coalition?
radical thought...
so if its true ... doesn't that make you long for say 72-74 or like 65-68 when it was a defacto LIB/NDP coalition?
lots of the leftwing agenda got done(vs current as you point out)

Gravatar Is it any surprise that after virtually unfettered Liberal govts for 30 years that a conservative one would make some changes?

Get used to it folks, its called democracy, and I will vote for Harper as long as he continues to dismantle the nanny state govt and culture of entitlement that has built up.

Pierre Trudeau ruined this country and now that we have a winning coalition we can hopefully gain the time to change it back.

A majority govt would really get this country moving again, and ditch the childish left wing mind set that has been imported by the Liberals thru immigration.

The base wants red meat and its high time the country had a little right wing medicine to fix this mess.

Gravatar Going to stay civil from here on in, Colin? (You know what I'm talking about.)

Gravatar I will vote for Harper as long as he continues to dismantle the nanny state govt and culture of entitlement that has built up.

Well then you had better stop voting right now Colin. Jay Currie and I don't agree on much, but we certainly agree on this - Harper is no libertarian and he has expanded, not shrunk the nanny state and state interference in the market.

Rather than be more open, he has closed and made his government th most centralized and controlled in Canadian history.

What cuts he did make - SWC, Court Challenges etc - are motivated by ideological social conservatism. You'll notice he is expanding state control over film tax credits and is continuing to subsidize the oil and gas industry to the tune of $1.5 billion per year.

And this whole Elections Canda mess sure smells like a CPC culture of entitlement to me...

If you think Harper is even remotely libertarian, you are a fool.

Gravatar Uh, Northern PoV? It's not Harper "spinmeisters" at work here. What I stated was plain fact. The record speaks for itself.
