My point was evidently too subtle. Race is the issue, no matter where Americans stand on it. The very fact that Biden is now Obama's running mate indicates its salience, as well as the prevalence of the n-word.

Anyway, the occurrence of the "n-word" doesn't come close to capturing the full spectrum in which the racist qualities of this campaign manifest themselves. I have been astonished to learn just how sophisticated Americans are at talking obliquely about the issue.
Nit, indeed. I've been through quite a few of them now, and when it isn't people calling Obama the n-word, it's reports of other people calling him the n-word.
I just despair thinking about all the young Conservatives, all over teh Internets, going unmentored and unshepherded as the wiser, more thoughtful Conservatives obsess over every last love bead, every unwaxed leg and every whiff of patchouli the Left clings to.
