Gravatar I noticed this too. The whole idea was that the IP was supposed to lead back to a CHRC employee, right?

Gravatar Yup. And it didn't. So now the spin is that a CHRC employee, under cover of darkness, did a bit of wardriving. That makes little sense--it has the feel of 9/11 troofiness about it. But I'm not savvy enough to critique the Bell logs. Maybe the "Jadewarr" date-stamp was off--given "Jadewarr"'s dynamic IP address, this might resolve the issue.

Gravatar I think Lemire described the address as a "toney" condo in downtown Ottawa worth $60,000. Not only are his politics stuck in the 30s, so are his economics.

Gravatar "Pricey" was the word he actually used. I was struck by that quaint notion as well. I shudder to think of the man's own quarters if that's what he considers expensive. : )

Gravatar Cardboard box by the Rideau...

I agree that the woman's name and details should not have been published and should be removed.

An un-passworded wi-fi a quarter of a mile from CHRC HQ? I agree that we would want to see the actual documents but I think it just as likely that the CHRC "investigators" were wardriving as it is that the timestamps are wrong.

I think, Dawg, that our perspectives vary because you think Lemire's creepiness (about which we agree) trumps the possibility that Warman and Co were operating as unsupervised Human Rights cowboys. I find government investigators, unconstrained by any sort of management oversight and basic record keeping rather more frightening than a guy with a bad crew cut and an apparently nasty attitude. One is the beginning of a real police state the other a punch line in a bad joke.

Gravatar Jay:

It just seems like such a lot of trouble to go to (the wardriving part, with attendant risks) when Steacy himself was open and honest about being "Jadewarr." I hesitate to raise Trutherism in this context, but I think a judicious use of Occam's Razor is due just about now.

Gravatar As I suggested in the post below - perhaps one of the 5 people who used the nic once lived in or near that condo complex and inadvertently got on her net.

Even though my laptop is set to always sign on to my airport signal at least once a week I seem to jump onto one of 3 people in my complex who have unprotected wifi with out any warning.

Or, as happened to me one summer when I was visiting my bro, he just logged on to the wrong Linksys. ( turns out he and the guy 2 doors down hadn't bothered changing the name of their router or protecting it )
