I don't want to offend anyone, but I think the Globe is kinda right, sorta, though maybe they could have put it more politely. 'K?

If we are no longer inferior, we are superior to what?
What were we inferior to?

canada's new "puffed up" sense of confidence is not something I associate with, and from my vantage point often looks more like Rick Hillier and Don Cherry racist buffoonery and militarism. i don't celebrate or care about 'canada day' because 'the nation' is a dangerous myth, which obscures fundamental issues like class exploitation, national oppression, institutional racism, militarism, and colonialism in the Canadian state. the left in canada needs an anti-nationalist politics, especially in english canada.

While I sympathize with Wilbur's point, I still like the fireworks and parades the way we used to do them.
