Actually I've been looking forward to that too. It's the weeping and gnashing of teeth that makes it all worthwhile to me.
It's almost like music. A lullaby, even. I slept well last night.

Shaidle is representative of a frustrated fringe, a wanna be who will never be. But John McCain made a good speech, a conciliatory speech, and reconciliation is exactly what's going to be needed to make the world a better and safer place. For everyone.
I travel regularly in the USA. I spend lots of time in McCain's home state, Arizona. The cultural and political divisions in the States are so bitter that it becomes comedy. I won't hold my breath waiting for the right to move toward the centre, which leaves the left and centre in the position of extending our hands to the disaffected. In Shaidle's case I will be wearing gloves though.

Damn it, Dawg, could you at least link to Yoshida's comment directly, instead of my post?
It's gone now anyway. I took it out as soon as I got back from class. It must've been posted after I went to bed last night.

I looked for his specific Permalink--couldn't find it. Sorry about that--I assumed people would scroll down.
Obviously this wasn't a knock on WS/S. I'll update my post.

Hm, Dawg, you're right. I always thought you could link to specific comments.
What the heck.. when did that change? Or maybe it's always been that way and I'm insane.
Well, either way, sorry for snapping like that. I'm taking some flak for my congratulatory post -- screw 'em, I say, but the thought of a reader of your blog confusing me with that person is difficult to tolerate.
Best,
Terrence

McCain's concession speech was entirely formulaic. There really is a formula for those things and there was nothing in his speech that went beyond it. Yet there were more things that McCain ought to have said and didn't. And, by the way, McCain was pretty arrogant when he said that the election of one black man settles the score for America's racism. I doubt many blacks in the south see it that way.

I'll admit that, for me, that was the one off-note in the speech. It's not just African Americans who should be proud. Just a whiff of "credit to his race"?
Still, over-all, one of the best, and best-delivered, concession speeches that I can remember.

"Personally, I enjoyed the fireworks last night--thousands of leftist heads exploding in a simply spectacular display of venom, rage, bile and bilge."
Reaction over Stephen Harper's win in Canada. I anxiously await Canadians' realization of Obama's professed increased commitment to Afghanistan - when compared to Canada's proposed 2011 withdrawal (which the opposition wants accelerated). I might even allow myself a dollop of schadenfreude when this occurs.

Care to give some examples that rival the ones that I and Red Tory and others have provided? Thought not.
I've never kidded myself about Obama's actual positions, many of which are quite conservative. But you've read my posts, and know why I rejoiced when he won.

Dawg, well some of us weren't as congratulatory as we could have been.. and um.. some of us were sad that he won and some of us didn't report to the reeducation camps...
yeah, that's it.

Although I agree that nut-picking is a bit lazy, most of us realise that elite right wing opinion doesn't differ that much in any way that matters. It's just more literate, clever and more artful in how it expresses pretty much the same thing.

Dawg: My apologies, I wasn't referring to you specifically and certainly not suggesting anything like the racially tinged whackjobs you noted. That said, the Greens and other leftists certainly portrayed Harper as next to the Anti-Christ - or worse, Canada's Bush/Cheney.

Who used the word "Antichrist?"
...besides me, that is?
As for comparisons to Bush/Cheney...well, sorry. But when your policies with regard to illegal/immoral military adventures, crime, the environment and (up until two months ago) de-regulated commerce are very Republican and when you lie as much as Harper does, it's not that irrational to compare Harper, at least from the pre-sweater vest period, to Bush/Cheney.
But that's yesterday's thinking. I'm sure Harper and his minions are busy re-branding Harpy as Canada's version of Obama.

I'm sure Harper and his minions are busy re-branding Harpy as Canada's version of Obama.
They may not have to - Obama may do it for him if his position on Afghanistan holds. I'm waiting for the reaction in Canada when Obama asks Canada to stay in Afghanistan beyond the scheduled pull out date (which the Liberals, et al want to accelerate).

Dr Dawg: When you encourage the FBI indeed a new day must be dawning. Though the direct job of protection is the Secret Service's.

The FBI does track threats against the President. Surely keeping on top of this is not all left to the Secret Service?

Certainly the Secret Service does the direct close protection and threat assessments, but the outer layer of investigating and arresting is done by the FBI.

Nutroots? I thought "nutroots" was a reference to left-wingers while "whingers" was accepted as a reference to right-wingers.
Of course, it is entirely possible that the right-wingers lost proprietary control of "nutroots" in the election.: )

Yoshida's comments would represent a clear and present danger to the office of the president.
Now - and I'm just guessing here - shouldn't the RCMP notify their American brethren, who would then scoop up Yoshida on his way home from Blockbuster, and ship him to a Middle Eastern country for some "questioning"?
I certainly wouldn't like to see that happen, of course. But you know those conservatives and their willingness to undergo torture for a $10 million federal settlement, right?
