I do enjoy the sweet irony. That, a Labour Union is ultimately behind a massive cut-throat, capitalist undertaking.

Does anyone actually expect a large bureaucratic organization (such as a large union) to behave any differently than a large corporation (a large bureaucratic organization)?

Well, yes, actually--having been a VP of one.
But in any case we need to be clear that the Pension Plan is not the teachers' union, and there are all kinds of things that keep the two at arm's length, including notions of fiduciary duty and so on.
Neither the union nor, in fact, the Board of the OTPP have necessarily been asked to do anything at this point, but if such things are done, or are presently being done, rest assured that it will all be behind the scenes. I just think that a few indignant emails and phone calls might speed things along a little.
Given that the OTPP actually owns the company in question, it seems to me that a few strings can be pulled. It couldn't happen fast enough. Some managers need to be fired forthwith.

It does demonstrate one of the limits of unionism under class rule, no question.
The same sort of thing happened in California a while back with CALPERS.
