Having grown up in India and Dubai, I am quite familiar with how the teachings of Islam , the religion has become part of the culture, and the way in which women are oppressed and illtreated in Muslim societies. I wonder why the likes of catherine MacKinnon and the Susan Estriches and the Lynne Stewarts of the world dont have anything to say about this. Or is it politically incorrect for a westerner to point out the negative aspects of t he culture of a bunch of colored folks? Or I wonder if that behavior is OK as long as it is done by folks who also hate George Bush?

For the left - hating the USA, and hating any American who does join their cause, is the thing to do. My enemy's enemy is my best friend seems to be their operating principle these days, hence to them, making common cause with the IslamoFascists seems the right thing to do, even though, it doesnt make any rational sense.
BTW, where has Mitzell, he who possesses the "superior intellect", go to? havent seen him comment in a couple of days!!!

Trust me, there is no Sharya in Canada (yet). I would not be surprised though if some Imams in some mosques in cities which have a big muslim population acts like some defacto sharya judges though, toward membres of their community. Their women know nothing else and are too scared to come forward...Clandestine sharya tribunals, nope, that would not surprise me at all,in most Western countries actually. (I hope this isn't true though...If our ways of living is so bad, why move here? That I don't get and never will. When I see how well some communities have adapted over the years-Italians and Vietnameses come to mind, although there are many others- all the while retaining what is best about their cultures I wonder what the heck is wrong. The only thing that I see is religious fanatism coupled with extreme misogyny.)

Some fanatic groups posing as a muslim community group for charity (ahum, yeah right!) tried to push it in Ontario and BC (that last one I am not sure about) on the concept that both Christians and Jews have some kind of religious tribunals re: matters of civil and religious laws. Btw I consider myself rather well informed (well, at least I try!) but I had never heard of any such Christian or Jewish tribunals around here before...Maybe there are some Jewish councils re:kosher certification or something like that, but I've never heard of any recent religious tribunals here. Yes separation of church and state is the key. It is strange in that the US is a much more religious country than Canada but that sep. of church and state is well established there, meanwhile here it is a less religious population on the whole but the 1982 constitution recognizes the supremacy of God. Weird.
Anyways, some former Ontario Attorney General (from the most leftist party, suprise surprise) recommended that some sharya tribunal be set up in her province (yes, it's a SHE!). A hoopla ensued and as far as I know it didn't happen. The Quebec govt. vowed that it would never ever permit one here. But as I look upon the wimpiness of our leaders I fear that in the future everything will be Islamicized in the West. And our worst ennemies are those that would let them do it by closing a blind eye to their political extremism.

Sad to say but I do believe that some cultures are so remote from the Occidental way of life that living together in the same country is pretty much impossible in the long run unless some serious changes are made (and the changes that I envision are NOT some kind of sharya and us living under some kind of dhimmitude).
