You are right on with your analysis about what drives these leftist lunatics. However, what worries me is this - that there are a lot of them out there. For example, at least 25% of our hometown. I worry that these narcissists will actually get up and actually act on their delusions, act out, and we will end up with a home grown terrorist problem on our hands. She certainly has. Over on Metafilter they're bitching about KBR & Bechtel getting the contracts - and never seeming to even THINK about what needs to be done. You're not building a house here, you're rebuilding a city - and there's not that many companies with the resources to do that.
It's like the old sign in the car repair shop: "You can get it fixed fast, right, or cheap. Pick any two." The job has to be done fast, and it has to be done right. Therefore, it's not going to be cheap - and since the job has to be done RIGHT, it makes no sense to toss it at folks who are untried and don't have the resources.
Man, the 'reality-based' community is showing itself to be anything BUT.

Not only that, but it turns out that the head of the Louisiana Democratic Party is the Director of the Shaw Group--one of the companies that got lucrative contracts. Only Malkin has publicized that info. But those lunatics conveniently ignore this information since it doesn't fit their talking points. Jan | Email | Homepage | 09.17.05 - 10:25 pm | #

It appear's as if we have more acquired narcissism patient's then we used to have. This is due, in part, to publicized propaganda, by the MSM, MTV, movie star's, musician's, college campuses, etc., that is repeated ad nauseam.
This campaign produces more A.N. lunatic's, usually from those with a lemming attitude who haven't learned (or refuse) to think independently and logically.
Fortunately, those of us who have grown up, are fighting back. We have Fox news, many outstanding blogger's,
conservative group's on campus, and even some celebrity's, who aren't afraid to speak up and stand for truth. We have women and men, who know the meaning of courage and honor, and they are not about to let these self-afflicted narcissist's ruin America, and everything she stand's for.
I served in the U.S. Navy, to protect our freedom...even the freedom of extreme narcissist's to spout their hatred-filled, delusional rambling's. But I will never let what they say and do, go uncontested!
The greatest weapon we have, is the truth, and we need to repeat the truth, as much as necessary, so that everyone hear's it. Everyone should hear the truth, before they choose what to do about it. Ben Conrad | Email | Homepage | 09.17.05 - 11:43 pm | #

It's funny though, no matter what the left seems to do or become, they never seem to lose legitimacy.
They never seem to be rejected outright. It's always, 'oh my! look at this new twist!' AA | Email | Homepage | 09.18.05 - 12:15 am | #

> Sadly, the paranoia and delusions exemplified in the above two quotations are probably not amenable to treatment.
Oh, there's treatments. They tend to involve killing the patient, though.
No major loss. Too much tiger food, not enough tigers. An unfortunate side effect of modern civ which tends to get short shrift on the scale of importance.

COL. MCMASTER: Hey, thanks. And please, everybody, just please tell the American people how great their soldiers are. You've got to tell them. I mean, it is unbelievable what they're doing. I mean -- and I know I can't keep you any longer, but I just want to tell you, they're fighting. They're defeating the enemy. They are partnered with Iraqi security forces. They're building Iraqi security force capability. They're providing humanitarian assistance. They're organizing reconstruction right now. They are taking care of the people of the city as they're pursuing the enemy. I mean, it is extraordinary the quality of the young men and women who we have here pursuing the enemies of our nation and helping to secure the people of Tall Afar and western Ninevah. So you got to tell them.
These are the final words of a press conference by the commander of the recent battle of Tal Afar.
It strikes me as futile and naive to see a military commander literally begging the press to get the word out, begging these bastards to simply report the truth. Because I know with certainty that they will not because they cannot.
Hoping for the press to tell the contextual truth, would be hoping for them to have an ability and a quality for which they do not possess. It would be hoping for the impossible.
So here you go bloggers. Here's your chance to fill the gap. Take it, or take off!
Regarding our troopers, I can't put into words what I feel for them. I can only invoke a hero who can.
And what sort of soldiers are those you are to lead? Are they reliable? Are they brave? Are they capable of victory?
Their story is known to all of you. It is the story of the American man-at-arms. My estimate of him was formed on the battlefield many, many years ago, and has never changed. I regarded him then, as I regard him now, as one of the world's noblest figures; not only as one of the finest military characters, but also as one of the most stainless.
His name and fame are the birthright of every American citizen. In his youth and strength, his love and loyalty, he gave all that mortality can give. He needs no eulogy from me; or from any other man. He has written his own history and written it in red on his enemy's breast.
But when I think of his patience in adversity of his courage under fire and of his modesty in victory, I am filled with an emotion of admiration I cannot put into words. He belongs to history as furnishing one of the greatest examples of successful patriotism. He belongs to posterity as the instructor of future generations in the principles of liberty and freedom. He belongs to the present, to us, by his virtues and by his achievements.

This speech literally moves me to tears everytime I hear it.
Thank you General.
Except for Lincoln, the greatest Americans have been and continue to be generals. Washington, Sherman, MacArthur, and okay, Boyd. I wanted to list LeMay, but he was a navigator. AA | Email | Homepage | 09.18.05 - 11:45 am | #

The "people will rise up" rhetoric has been standard on the Left for a hundred years. When "the people" don't get it, the left resorts to hatred, and next violence, because they just know that the masses would be on their side if they would only wake up.
It's a scary pattern. Assistant Village Idiot | Email | Homepage | 09.18.05 - 2:22 pm | #

And the angry left becomes more angry.
I think this is actually a good sign.
They are beginning to realize that Bush will rise above their rhetoric and do great things in the reconstruction period. Alot of good will happen between now and the 2006 Election. And the Gulf Recovery will be well under way by the time of the 2008 Election. Barry Johnson | Email | Homepage | 09.18.05 - 8:26 pm | #

I think you may have the wrong psychopathology, Dr. S., if there's a psychopathology at work at all. Nowadays the most over-the-top, emotional guy wins. Call it Wheel of Fortune syndrome—they want contestants who will demonstrate larger-than-life reactions. Naturally, some pretty narcissistic behaviors will be exhibited. They'll keep exhibiting the behaviors as long as it keeps working.
Long ago I read somewhere the observation that every age has its own characteristic psychopathology. For the Middle Ages it was hysteria. For another age schizophrenia. For yet another paranoia. I think the psychopathology of our age is attachment disorder. Dave Schuler | Email | Homepage | 09.21.05 - 9:49 am | #
