We can solve the "drilling or oil wherever we find it" problem, the immigration problem, the guest worker problem and half our social problems, not by annexing Mexico, but by begging them to annex us. They're already on the way to doing so. They'd not tolerate the antisocial behavior that we do...They'd have no problem drilling in Alaska, or jailing bad people. The only problem is that their govt. is corrupt, but we're moving in that direction, too. So what's the big deal? Please, Mexico, take us in...I want to be your illegal immigrant. |

I think we should use some of the money we used to send to the hopeless Palestinians. Mexicans can use it more productively. We can set up an office down there to facilitate branches of American businesses that employ Mexican nationals -- and, give any illegal in our country priority status to get a job there--in fact, the our government could pay their way back to take the jobs our companies have created. |

Do you want to provoke Hugo Chavez to helpless nightmares? He knows America want to invade Venezuela (not), but taking Mexico in..! You would hear the Marxist primal scream from every fibre of his puny racist body. |

Does not sound like a bad idea at first blush. It has a number of positives that lend itself to it. I would have to give this some real thought though. The first being how many present Mexicans would like to become Americans. What would be the costs of bringing large numbers out of poverty? There are a number of questions that need to be answered, but I kind of like it though there are a number of factors that seem to make it improbale. |

There's a competing movement for "The 51st State" designation in Taiwan. [http://members.aol.com/xpus/FSM-Appeal.html] |

there's another in Kurdistan, too, a "51st State " movement |

Alan Moore, in WATCHMEN, imagines an alternate reality in which the U.S. won the Vietnam War in 1971, making VN the 51st state by 1985. |

We could call it the United States of America and Mexico--the USAM |

Puerto Rico doesn't want statehood. They just want all the benefits of statehood (which they have). |

Mexico still has hundreds of miles of beautiful untapped beaches.I can see thousands and thousands of beautiful high rise condo's in our 51st state. Many more $$$$$$ for our economy...... |

No, according to La Raza, California belongs to Mexico, don't you know? |
|
> you need to let 2 states in of equal political size. One Dem, one Rep. |

Damn, the Annex Mexico train is picking up steam. Let's go all the way to the Panama Canal. That border would be much easier to secure than the current one. |

James Lileks mentioned this on Hugh Hewitt's radio show a few days ago. |
