Last weekend, an artist friend of mine acquired a stack of 1966-68 Playboys in trade.

Going through them with a historian's eye, I noticed something. (Besides the obvious...)

These Playboys were circa 1968, the Era of VIETNAM (TM), and there was a lot less hysteria about Vietnam in those pages than there is now. As it was happening. When Vietnam was news, before it became History, then Legend, then Mythology.

I found your blog just today and I sure am glad I did. After serving in the Air Force for four years in the early 60's, I went to college on the GI Bill and became an advocate for racial equality, women's rights, and an activist against the Viet Nam War. I lived in that culture for many years until about 10 years ago when I became increasingly disturbed by the hate-filled vehemence of people on the Left and especially those with whom I'd been close friends for decades. I've had to let go of all but one of these friends precisely because of the behavior you so clearly describe. I'm also old enough to remember the same sort of behavior by members of the John Birch Society and see it again in the Ron Paul movement and, needless to say, in the Islamofascist movement. Thanks for your insights. I look forward to reading the rest of your blog entries. Jim

I agree with you totally on alot of what you say. However, it seems to me that you have your own political agenda; am I right in suspecting you're a republican voter? I don't criticize you for that in itself, however, I do detect elements of you being unwilling to consider challenges to your own narrative of world events. I doubt very much that you have the kind of knowledge of Islam or terrorism to make such powerful, and apparently all-knowing statements. I don't think any of us do, but my point is that it's important to play devils advocate and question one's views at times, and not simply patholagise people who's views differ to your own. I think this piece would be more powerful if it had some element of self-doubt in it; in it's current form I feel it's in danger of being too rigid and self assured, and this is ironic given the criticism of the left wing condition.

Fear and paranoia are products created by wealthy predators that employ some of those who practice the behavioral sciences who have turned on the People of the state for either profit or Power.

Inhumanity is a product not a natural state of being.

Politics is just a divisive tool like many other social standardized groupings and classifications created for absolute control and domination and each has its own symbols and symbolic idols that demigods can cover there wolf like tendencies to devour the programmed sheep.

The real question is when will we stop living in the myth of being a democracy and a free state.

Anyone can spew out rhetoric even some of it may have a hint of legitamate diagnosis to it.

Of course true accountability is always missing because the truth is sharp and indiscriminate and dealing with the fact that we exist in altered reality is very hard for most to fathom or digest.

You may realize there is a connection with your articles and my statement. If you do not perhaps it is just to hazy to see at this time.

There is no real conservative or liberal in regards to politics. It is all marketing and allegiance driven. The spin is in the divisive use of symbols. Their true agendas are the same and it is manifested in the state of country and its people as a whole.

Both so called ideologies (parties) use the same tactics but dress it differently. The reality is that no matter who is or has been in power we are where we are today and so-called liberals and conservatives are partially to blame and of course the sheep have the rest of the responsibility to bare for the missing our shot at having a true democracy and elevating the state of man.
