In fact, Hamas and Hizbollah miscalculated- they believed a low level, low grade assault on Israel would no provoke an Israeli response. They Israelis, they believed, would not upset and endanger their western sytle, middle class existence, by going to war.

They believed that Israel would allow herself to be consumed by the same kind of cancer that ruined Lebanon and that has deprived Palestinians of a state of their own.

Clearly, the Israelis aren't Arabs.

In a way, you have to feel sorry for the Islamic terrorists. They seem unaware that the United States and Israel have been handling them with kid gloves. This has gone on for so long, that the Moslems seem to think that such treatment is like a law of physics - something that man cannot do anything about. The terrorists don't seem to realize that they and much of their populations could be exterminated without the West breaking much of a sweat if the West so desired.

And the Muslim world doesn't have to be nuked for this to happen. Remember, the Muslim world produces nothing - no manufactured good, no medicines, no advanced weapons, not literature or art, no farm goods. It produces nothing but trouble.

I fear that if the terroist Threaten
anything truly vital to the West, the reaction will be so fast and furious that they will not know what hit them.

It is only western self-restraint that has allowed the Muslims to get away with as much mischief has they have to date.

I have heard not a few military and polical people talk of "the roman option" should the terrorists ever nuke one of our cities...we'd "go Roman" as in Carthage - wipe out their power centers, salt their fields, kill all military age men (and behead and bury with pigs all their Mullahs and other leaders) and that's just for starters.

The amount of reports from the front lines of Taliban or Al Qaeda types who can't shoot worth a darn are legion... it's the theology of fatalism and "inshallah" God willing that guides the footsoldiers' lack of training or aiming... thanks be to God! But if they ever invaded 20+ million American deer and turkey hunters (who do know the fine art of aiming) would be there with 30-30s, 30-06's and .308s to teach them a 500 yard lesson.

The islamikazes don't realize that even if they beat us, they're doomed. Even if we convert, die, or roll over in total dhimmitude, eventually they're going to annoy China. They gutted Baghdad and they never recovered. We rose from the collapse of Rome, and surpassed the rest of the world when somehow we stumbled onto a few ideas which eventually were embodied in the anglosphere nations. They're just the cultures that best used them, but they're adaptable across the human family-it's not something that only anglos or yanks or canucks or aussies or kiwis can use. Japan learned, the hard way. Everyone learns the hard way: our civil war paid in blood for the horrors of slavery, and even then the bill was still outstanding for another century. It's a work in progress. There is no final revelation, no seal of the prophets, no scientific historical dream that will free the gifts of people to live like we have in the west. It doesn't come easily The iron dreams of the 20th Century were written in blood on scrolls of bone, and now in the 21st we'll learn if the dreams of an iron-age Arab merchant refracted through fiber optic and RDX will lead to the same horrible end. I'm an optimist, so I'd like to think that at the other end of this century we'll still be around and free enough look around and wonder. I'm also unfortunately enough of a realist to know it won't happen without a price.

Well you're right but there are other issues at play. (1) The demographic explosion in the mideast... 9 children per Shiite pair, 5 per Sunni pair, 2 per Druze etc. They have people coming out of their ears (to mix a metaphor). (2) Global warming... My guess that the carrying load of the arid mideast is starting to drop already. This together with water shortage is a real bomb. (3) The general problems that accompany collapse of an ethnic group. One can argue that Arab culture is dying and these are its death throes.
