Right on the money Doc. Keep up the good work.

Calling all Moon-bats! Come-out come-out where ever you are!

This "ought" to be interesting.

When it comes to heinous charges of misconduct, especially involving a public figure, it behooves one to have their ducks in a row before making accusations.

It's not what Hastert knew, it is not what he suspected, but what Hastert believed he could prove when the accusations first came to light. Congresscritters have gooooood lawyers. Some of them are good lawyers themselves. If Hastert was going to ask Foley to resign some months back, he was not going to do it without a lot more evidence than he had at the time (the original emails).

If Hastert was going to ask Foley to resign before this "scandal" broke, he was not going to do it unless he could go, "Foley---I have A and B and C and D, and a buttload of affadavits. Your lawyers can't massage this, and you can't fight me and win. Resign NOW!"

Some creepy emails that could go either way, rumors, and suspicions were insufficient.

Unfortunately the above comment is right on the money - just as if Bush had ordered the grounding of all airlines on August 11, 2001 on the basis of the famous "memo" reporting Osama's desire to "do something" domestically...the Left would have cried foul and not put one bit of trust in the memo which they're all howling is "crystal clear warning" of 911.... hell, we can't even say nasty things about Iran, but if they nuke us tomorrow the Left - the same folk demanding we be nice to Iran today - will demand to know "why" we weren't nasty "yesterday"!

Need I mention that if Foley was a democrat he wouldn't be resigning? Did Barney Frank resign? No. Is the former governor of NJ DOA? No. He's making money off his 'outing'.

RS has a valid point, but it doesn't subtract anything from the Doc's overall and well-phrased argument.

There may be a problem with the premise of this situation itself, and it's becoming more of a liklihood that not only Hastert, et. al., have been sucker-punched, but quite possible that Foley himself was targeted, baited, hooked and gutted.

There's supposed to be a press conference tomorrow, Wednesday 10/4, late afternoon, which reportedly will make some mainstream media folks really, really unhappy.

I'm fuzzy on details, but had followed a hot link from Macsmind. Might be time to stock up on pop-corn, though, if this is what it appears to be.

If someone could invent a lightbulb powered by scandal, we'd all be blinded by the lights coming from the offices of our elected representatives.

And now, all of a sudden, the Democrats become the party of Diogenes? Be careful what stones you pick up to throw, there's no telling what's going to be uncovered next.

Can any good thing come out of DC? -cp

VDH's quote "The Europe that believes in everything turns out to believe in nothing" reminds one of the C&W song "You've got to stand for something or you'll fall for anything."

However the idea is expressed, postmodernism equals moral relativism equals nihilism equals self-loathing writ large.

It would be as ironic as it would be tragic for this country if this tawdry scandal could cause the Democrats, who are spring-loaded to the surrender position, to get control of both Houses of Congress. The thought of Speaker Pelosi, Ways and Means Chairman Charlie (You've got to pay for the war, don't you?) Rangel, Majority Leader Harry (We killed the Patriot Act) Reid and their fellow travelers will only hasten our slide into European style appeasement. I am disappointed by the Republicans daily, but the Democrats will kill us all with endless investigations, impeachment proceedings and all manner of foolishness at the expense of protecting the country and fighting our enemies.

Personally, I'm locked, stocked and loaded in case the citizenry of this country completely lose their survival instincts and bestow power upon these poltroons and mountebanks.

"Those whom the Gods would destroy, they first make mad." -Euripedes (Greek Golden Age author of Alcestis, Electra and The Bacchae)

At least we can take comfort from the knowledge and wisdom of our past, knowing there is hope we will prevail - as our ancestors prevailed. But it's damned depressing to see the same patterns repeat themselves again and again. Why can't the mass of humanity progress?

If our Western Tradition collapses, there will be a dark age that will make the last look like a kiddie summer camp. Islamofascist will turn on themselves immediately, and this time they'll have nukes.

I wonder myself how the Dems came across information more damning than Hastert and at least 2-3 newspapers had years ago, if all this happened to GOP pages.

Nobody can really know what you look like online. Can you tell if you are IMing with a 17-year-old page or a 45-year-old oppo?

The point that is missing in this argument is that while Foley is gay, he is accused of using his position to exploit minors at best, and pedophilia at worst.

The scandal is not that the man is gay, but rather that he was using his position in Congress as a platform to behave as a sexual predator while simultaneously writing anti-sexual predator legistration! I believe that most members of both parties do the best they can to protect children, and this scandal does as much damage to the legislative branch as a whole as to a particular party.

"this scandal does as much damage to the legislative branch as a whole as to a particular party."

Perhaps, Michael Czeiszperger 10.03.06 - 10:54 pm, but the people who pay the price are predominately members of one party who are caught, while members of the other party largely escape unscathed and are frequently lionized as heroes. Do the names Studds and Frank ring a bell? To my great surprise, this ">Washington Post story makes that very point. However, that's not the most important thing. My post of 10.03.06 - 7:47 pm describes a far more significant possible (probable?) outcome of this fiasco.

Amen, Dr. S.. And while the question of "why" the Nihilists, Relativists, Determinists, Da-Daists, Perception is reality-ists, Narcissists, Cultists, Sadomasochists, etc., are the way they are is somewhere in there as relevant, the reality is that they must be defeated. We can "understand" them later, assuming we will be in a position do do so at some time or other as a result of defeating these effective mutants.

Michael C., I strongly disagree; the scandal is indeed that the man is a sexual predator. Predators exploit any loophole or weakness and that includes an uneven power distribution, such as his Congressional position. I include the sexual because it's a particularly sensitive and vulnerable area for most people, not the least teenagers.

To be clear, pedophiles go after prepubescents, so Foley isn't a pedophile...so far.
Foley is still a creep, abused his power and broke the law, and the FBI may uncover more crimes that Foley committed.
I almost spit up my coffee earlier when Palosi said that the current democrats are the most honest and transparent in history. LOL!

"Michael C., I strongly disagree; the scandal is indeed that the man is a sexual predator."

Sounds like we agree then...

How is it possible that you describe conversations as "sick" yet choose to remain jovial and engaged while youre being "molested"? And there are 52 such examples?

The fact that this supposed victim happens to be an "Untouchable" wont go unnoticed by smart voters. Its the easily distracted, emotional dumbass voters we have to worry about.

Good article.

I believe there is another useful way to see the Left since it empirically predicts all their stances, actions and rhetoric. It's called 'childishness.'

I believe that narcissism inevitably fills the vacuum created by nihilism. Narcissism at its broadest and deepest negates adulthood; it negates responsibility, sharing (as opposed to taking), morality, etc.

So it's simple. On any topic, ask yourself what a spoiled four year old would want. That's what the Left's position will be.

Go ahead and try it: abortion, welfare, parental consent. Works, doesn't it?

If Congressman Foley had come out of the closet at a Democratic Party event, crying and flapping his wrists, and apologised for being a Republican, and had complained about how he "had been oppressed all his life by Republicans", and announced that he had switched parties, this 'scandal" wuld be a non-issue. Foley is being punished, because he dared to be a gay manin the Republican Party. Blacks, Asians, gays, and other "minorities are required to kowtow to the Dems, didnt y'all know? See the hate-fest directed to the few blacks, asians, and homosexuals by Dems and their fellow travellers, once they find out out the brave individual who chooses not to follow the herd.

"Foley is being punished, because he dared to be a gay manin the Republican Party."

You've got to be kidding! He resigned and is being investigated by the FBI because he's apparently a sexual predator. This would happen regardless of his party, or if he was preying on girls instead of boys.
