17. Goats do climb trees, but I've never seen them perch on such tiny branches. I don't think those branches would support the goats' weight. Is this photo via Reuters? stace | Email | Homepage | 10.22.06 - 10:30 am | #

The goat picture is faked.
Take a close look at the upper left most goat. His hind feet are standing on nothing but air.
Take a look at the shadow on the large black and white goat in the central part of the picture. The shadow across the back cannot be cast by any limb of the tree near the goat. The shadow would not be as sharp or shaped that way if a more distant limb was causing it.
The top most goat's hind feet are standing on a most suspicious limb. Tree limbs are simply not shaped as a horizontal T branch. There should be a joint somewhere near the center of the horizontal branch and the branch should be more or less V shaped.
While goats may be able to climb trees, I think these three goats did not get where they are by themselves. The evidence says they had a lot of digital help. A. Rational Human | Email | Homepage | 10.22.06 - 11:49 am | #

ARH...
I think you may be mistaken...it looks to me like the front feet are on one branch, and the backs on another. Entirely possible with goats.
I suspect this wouldn't be so amazing if we could see the bottom of the tree. All they need is a low branch, a sloped hill next to the tree, or a big rock close by.
These poor things sure are skinny. suek | Email | Homepage | 10.22.06 - 12:44 pm | #

I laughed and laughed at Robert Jensen's "masculinity" story... until about a third of the way through, when I realized that it wasn't a joke.
Then I got that look on my face, like when a cat hears a loud noise and can't tell what direction it came from.
Dude probably went on an acid trip watching Yellow Submarine at the premiere and never came back.
Talk about outdated ideas. Merovign | Email | Homepage | 10.22.06 - 6:04 pm | #

Anonymous @ 5:30 -- precisely whose anus serves as the aperture?
Merovign -- have you ever seen or listened to Robert Jensen? If you had, you would not wonder at the provenance of that absurd article, and you would know he has absolutely no sense of humor. Zhombre | Email | Homepage | 10.22.06 - 9:46 pm | #

Folks,
I hate to sound 'know it all', but it is obvious that none of you have been to morocco lately. I have.
The tree climbing goats are quite real.

Moreover, they are generally in an argan tree. Why? Because they eat the fruit and exrete the seeds, which are then retrieved, processed to extract the oil, and sold for human consumption. I'm glad I learned how tasty is argan oil before I learned how it is produced. Right up there with civet coffee. laocoon | Email | Homepage | 10.23.06 - 10:48 am | #
