Dr. Sanity,

Americans are going to rue the day that their "leaders," the _optimates_ or "best" people among them, have ignored that quote from Edmund Burke that graces your side bar just under the picture of John Bolton, for that is what appeasement amounts to, doing nothing or far too little while evil snakes its way towards a merciless triumph.

Leave the position vacant. If not that, then appoint some flunky from the State Dept and tell him to vote 'no' when appropriate; otherwise ignore them.

Kerry "said it was an opportunity for Bush to nominate an ambassador 'who enjoys the support necessary to unite our country and the world and who can put results ahead of ideology.'"

Right, down with the ideology of freedom and self-defense against The Religion of Islamofascism! Can't we all just get along - as dhimmis?

Bolton's sin was promoting American interests, which he has done both faithfully and brilliantly. His detractors wanted a lackey to play yes-man to the American-bashers that infest the U.N., in a vain and foolish notion that our "image" is more important than our principles and national interests. The anti-Americanism in the U.N. is so thick you can cut it with dull knife, yet Bolton has been surprisingly effective.

A pox on those bastards who blocked this good man from confirmation.

"Kerry "said it was an opportunity for Bush to nominate an ambassador 'who enjoys the support necessary to unite our country"

Why would I want to be united with Kerry and his opportunism?

Going to play devil's advocate.

Bolton has been openly antagonistic towards the UN for years, and many there don't exactly think of him fondly. Would this not make it difficult for him to get things done? Wouldn't someone the international community likes have a better chance of making deals favorable to the US?

Wouldn't someone the international community likes have a better chance of making deals favorable to the US?

You mean someone like Colin Powell, who made a deal with the Fwanch and got stabbed in the back?

Yes, someone like Colin Powell would make an ideal ambassador to the UN. It does not follow that getting "stabbed in the back" at one point means that a more polarizing ambassador would fair better.

That's exactly my point.

Go ahead and have Colin Powell as our UN ambassador. He can sing Kumbaya all day long with those UNcrats. When it's time to make a deal or have a vote, he won't fare any better.

Besides he's voting at the President's pleasure. That will be the day(s) I anticipate!

I think gridlock is good for us with respect to congress. However, its magnitudes better for us at the UN. That den of thugs destroys freedom, liberty, and individual rights were ever and whenever it acts.

The existence of the UN is an insult to free men everywhere. It should be abolished without giving it a second thought. We have an absolute right to defend ourselves without having to beg a house of despots and petty thieves for permission.

Yeah, I say forget the "United Nations." It's as (or even more) ineffective than the League of Nations that it replaced. If anything, it's an organization that likes to bash the United States over all sorts of things. We should kick them out of the US. They would be much better suited to meeting someplace like Syria.

Appoint Dennis Miller.

No, appoint Rumsfeld with Miller as a backup. Leave the Lefties hoooooowling for months and months with no UN ambassador, effectively.

Make them choose----someone the KosBots hate, or no ambassador.

BUT, perhaps things aren't so simple as they appear?

"There is no way a man of John Bolton's character would be the willing mouthpiece for the terrible foreign policy direction the administration has taken."
(ibid)

So, why is Bush beginning to adopt such foolish "all carrot no stick" foreign policy initiatives with our evil enemies?

In, "Bush's Third Way Betrays True Conservatism" from...
http://www.cato.org/pub_display....php? pub_id=2978
...we are told that Bush is "...seeking a sort of Third Way between Reagan and Clinton."

In other words, he isn't a conservative, just a nice guy who gets some of what he does right because he means well But his lack of a clear conservative vision leaves him vulnerable, and he is now succumbing. It was only a matter of time. Perhaps that's why he was such a pushover on Rumsfeld, and Bolton, and why he's never really articulated why America would be better with Reps than Dems.? Is it that he really does not see much of a difference?

This article doesn't pull any punches either...
"The more of George W. Bush you see, the more he sounds like and governs like Bill Clinton - perhaps minus the personal indiscretions."
http://www.worldnetdaily.com/ new...RTICLE_ID=24319

Ouch!

Of course, Bush's meltdown comes as no surprise to those of us who've been upset with him for his support for a state for the so-called "palestinians" which would only be a source of ever escalating terror in the ME and the world. Sympathy for evil, however well intentioned, never leads to anything but trouble.

Someone needs to give the opportunist fop John Kerry (and ineffectual critics like Chafee) a laundry list of what John Bolton had accomplished in his short tenure in the UN. After itemizing Bolton's amazing set of accomplishments in spite of the machinations of that organization filled with corruption, one should then ask John Kerry (and the Chafee me-too-ers)exactly which of those achievements he finds objectionable.

Kerry makes up in vacuous soundbites more than he has even accomplished of consequence himself.

...How about John Kerry for ambassador? Seriously.

He would then serve at Bush's pleasure, and be forced to give up his Senate seat in the process. The votes he castes against Bush will shirley come back to haunt him, torpedoing his chances for a revival by revealing to ordinary Americans (and a whole new generation) his treasonous soul.

Here is a digest of Bolton's achievements on behalf of America's interests. There is no short shrift either in his promoting humanitarian rights for oppressed nations and for righting the ethical problems in the UN. http://www.humanevents.com/artic...le.php? id=16203

Our nation has lost a remarkable representative because of cheesy, partisan politics.

"Someone needs to give the opportunist fop John Kerry..." - onlineanalyst | ... 12.04.06 - 8:03 pm |

It would only make the situation worse. Massaging Kerry's envy of any real success with 'see what a real man can do' is bound to make Kerry hate Bolton even more than he probably already does. And what if maybe Kerry had an embolism? THEN wouldn't we feel guilty!

I say nominate Robert Bork so we can see Chuck Schumer's head explode. Or how about nominate Trent Lott except he has to agree to wear only short sleeve white shirts and a tie to work.

Anyone besides me get the eerie feeling that less than a hundred thousand media people and politicians are orchestrating this whole cultural free fall into oblivion for our Nation? All the blind followers are just people afraid to be labeled as homophobe, racist, bigotted, greedy, sexist and intolerant warmongers. By people that actually ARE all those things no less!

President Bush should have said John Bolton will remain his nominee until a vote is taken.

After the vote start a two year search for a "bi-partisan" candidate.

Thanks for letting me post for at least another day.

First you had Bush(ism). Good intentions + poor planning = complexity in Iraq.
But now you have Murtha(ism). More good intentions + more poor planning = potential for multiplying the current levels of complexity by potentially ridiculous and unpredictable amounts.

When Murtha started out I honestly gave him the benefit of the doubt, just like I did with Bush. I mean, these guys have thousands of technicians running around with clipboards full of intelligence data that gets fed into the Colossus supercomputer, right? They’ve gotta have better answers than the wee folks. I thought Murtha’s people were using politics to stir the pot and get people talking and then he was going to pull some really great strategy out of his pocket at the last minute.

But nope. It really does look like Iraqi Fiaso – Chapter II, is in the works.

"But nope. It really does look like Iraqi Fiaso – Chapter II, is in the works."

Quite possible, and no doubt possible through the tireless efforts of a treasonous media and selfish democrats who used the war simply as a political tool to constantly hammer the President and browbeat the American public. Gotta love those democrats, they don't let anything stand in the way of their thirst for power ... not even when it conflicts with the best interest of their country. Oh yeah, the fact that we have men and women in harms way apparently doesn't mean much to them either. I talking about those men and women who joined up because they're too dumb to do anything else ... you know, the Kerry and Rangel troops.

Bush just kept trying to throw his weight around with Bolton, and he finally didn't get his way.

That's a triumph for the Constitution, more than anything else.

"That's a triumph for the Constitution, more than anything else."

Surely you jest. In an organization full of dictators, tyrants, crooks and corrupt "dignitaries", Bolton was a breath of fresh air. In contrast, the dems will no doubt supply an appeaser who wants to be liked and knows how to kiss UN ass at cocktail parties. That's a triumph for no one.

darwin,
There’s no way you can control a “treasonous media” when it’s whole focus is:
1. selling toothpaste (the business as a whole).
2. maintaining inside contacts (the individual reporters themselves).

The way to control “selfish democrats” and selfish Republicans is by demanding results.

Cheering on the teams players that’re “in harms way” is good. So is demanding good coaching and management.

“Too dumb to do anything else” I bet most of em, after they’ve earned their government paid diplomas, will perform better at their jobs than most of our elected officials do at theirs.

By now I hope you get my drift..

"There’s no way you can control a “treasonous media” when it’s whole focus is:
1. selling toothpaste (the business as a whole).
2. maintaining inside contacts (the individual reporters themselves)."

You must be talking about a different media. The one I'm talking about prints or broadcasts national security secrets under the cloak of "informing the public". Yeah, too bad the bad guys are part of that "public" too.

Or they continously harp on the bad and never, never give us a glimpse of what good might be happening. Yeah, them bad guys love that crap. Plus, many of the stories (especially from the AP and Reuters) aren't even true to begin with. But the media somehow feels a responsibility to repeat these stories then neglect to run retractions.

No, I have the right media alright.

"The way to control “selfish democrats” and selfish Republicans is by demanding results."

We shouldn't be demanding anything. Politicians are the representatives of the people and their votes and actions should reflect that. The republicans certainly didn't with border security. The democrats listened to their lunatic fringe. We'll just have to wait and see what they do. Besides self destruct I mean.

"Cheering on the teams players that’re “in harms way” is good. So is demanding good coaching and management."

Cheering our troops on is good? I take it the democrats didn't get the memo. You gotta cheer for the coach too whether you like him or not.

By the way, imagine playing in a home football game where half the home crowd continuously booed, jeered, called you murderers and rapists, wanted you to quit and concede and kept calling for the coaches head. Probably not gonna play very well but it sure as hell fires up the opposing team.

I'm sure you get my drift.

Here's the drift that a lot of lefty's are finally starting to get (and it's only taken 3 weeks!): the good ol' always reliable (and always illegal) bait and switch tactics paid off huge for the Donks. 2 years of acting like Repubs. Acting. Acting C'ya Murtha!

For further proof, just look at Michael Moore's virtual fatwa against the Democrats on his website.

www.michaelmoore.com

What ever. It's all craptacular BS anyway. You all get my drift, right?

I do belive that ytba and I are having a bit of trouble on haloscan...

maybe should just lay off on the holiday cheer just a tad too...eh?

By the way, imagine playing in a home football game...

OK, let's roll with this metaphor.

Imagine a team that's already in the middle of one game, and the coach says they have to be in another game too, on a far-away field.

Now imagine assistant coaches tells him he'll need more players to do that - so the coach fires him.

Now imagine the coach says this'll be cheap and easy to do, because they'll be able to pay for the second game with the other team's gear, once they lose.

Now imagine the coach's newly appointed assistant coach, who he's long-time buddies with, says the game'll be over in "Days, weeks...I doubt months."

Now imagine more and more players get hurt so bad they can't ever play again, for the rest of their lives.

Now imagine that the second game costs so much, it is literally bankrupting the school.

Now imagine that the second game is producing so many angry fans that they're forming more and more new teams and starting new games. And impartial sports experts analyze that the longer the second game goes on, the more and more enemy teams are being generated.

Now, at this point, is it treason to say the Coach is doing a poor job? Or is it treason to let him going on doing what he's doing, when *nothing* he's started in the second game has produced the results he said it would?

Games, and wars, are won by acknowledging reality.

darwin,

Shoulda been checking back. Sorry. Anyways:

What secrets? That we haven’t killed laden or zawahiri because we have agents penetrated who are placing bugs wherever those two go would be a secret. The stuff the media’s been reporting the terrorists would have figured out for themselves.

When has good news ever out-sold bad news (except in sports and maybe gardening)?

Have you ever considered that the majority of Americans of all stripes want many of the exact same things, and that neither party will deliver those things because their strategists are afraid it would impede their goals of votes and cash?

I come from the philosophy that if everybody always cheered on their football team then eventually we’d all be watching really crappy football. And if everybody always booed then the team would fold or move out of town. You’ve gotta have both types of fans for the NFL to be a successful business. It’s the way of things.

jim: "Now, at this point, is it treason to say the Coach is doing a poor job? Or is it treason to let him going on doing what he's doing, when *nothing* he's started in the second game has produced the results he said it would?"

Neither is "treason" and either I'm completely inarticulate when it comes to typing or you're just stubborn.

Had the democrats or anyone else including republicans, taken to heart that they had valid concerns and attempted to speak privately with the president or the SoD or anyone else involved ... the president have been receptive. After whatever was worked out, THEN you have a press conference. I would applaud the democrats and chastise the republicans to follow the democrats example of being an American first, republican second.

Instead, the democrats opined their displeasure thru their cohorts the media. The President was called names unbecoming of not only the president, but commander in chief as well. What made it even worse was that it was a very transparent attempt not to "do the right thing", but to score political points in a effort to regain the House and Senate. That, to me, is vile.

"What secrets?"

Uh ... NSA monitoring of terrorists. Gee, wonder why there was a huge buy of disposable cell phones after that?

Secret prisons that accomplished two things ... enflamed the muzzie fanatics and hurt the host nations helping us. Great ....

There's others, off the top of my head I can't name them right now.

"When has good news ever out-sold bad news (except in sports and maybe gardening)?"

Since when can't the media portray the accomplishments of our military? You're saying the NY Times only sees fit to print the deaths of our men and women?

"Have you ever considered that the majority of Americans of all stripes want many of the exact same things"

Yes ... national health care isn't one of them.

"I come from the philosophy that if everybody always cheered on their football team then eventually we’d all be watching really crappy football."

True, except the team you're supposed to be supporting is the finest in the world and deserves support even if they've played a "crappy" game.

”there was a huge buy of disposable cell phones”
Well, maybe they really are that dumb. I thought Bush told everyone right after 9-11 what he was going to do. Looking on the bright side, maybe eventually the intelligent street arabs will be saying: DO NOT upset the Americans! Their “solutions” are CATASTROPHIC for us! Can you imagine what would happen if America actually retaliated?

national health care
I’m up for anything as long as it works. If NHC makes the machine run better then fine, if not then don’t do it. For me, ideology and principle comes a distant second to “does it work?”.

I’m talking about stuff like border control and making illegal immigration, you know, illegal. The Dems in power don’t want to lose the Hispanic vote, the GOPs in power doesn’t want to lose the $upport of businesses that benefit from it. Most everyone else sees trouble if this stuff keeps up.

team you're supposed to be supporting is the finest in the world and deserves support even if they've played a "crappy" game.

But what if everyone sees all-stars on the player roster but some fans think they’re losing because of crappy management? Personally, I want to see more games like Afghanistan-up-til-torabora, and less like Iraq post-mission-accomplished.

Bolton was the UN"s last best chance at existence. Now they are the walking dead.
