I realize many people these days think eating squirrel is strange, but it was once quite common. You ever listen to that song about the Battle of New Orleans? "they opened up their squirrel guns..." They are quite good in gumbo and fried like chicken.
If I not mistaken, Teddy Rosevelt ate them IN the White House.
If the Jihadist manage to set off a few nukes in the U.S., those persons on the outskirts of the cities that survive may well be trapping squirrel for food. Too much of our food these days requires refrigeration and would quickly perish once the electricity goes out.
