When someone starts talking about the "carbon footprint of having children" and saving the planet by reducing the population, I suggest that it would be even more effective to reduce the existing population by encouraging suicide.

Then I suggest that he set a good example.

All this suggests that the savvy Chinese rulers may be first out of the blocks to assuage greenhouse emissions and they will succeed by delivering orders.

How strange it must seem to these elite western thinkers, then, that the Chinese and Indians have instead been the first nations out of the blocks to not only deny that fossil fuel CO2 emissions need to be "assuaged", but to assert that these emissions need to be increased in order to avoid a real disaster in those countries - something which, of course, has been occurring now for some time.

Then again, it probably doesn't seem "strange" to these elites, who live in a completely anti-reality fantasy world and, therefore, most likely can't even notice what anyone is really doing.

I'm Karl Marx and I endorse the above statement.

As my European Christian Democratic (center-right) friends used to say 20 or more years ago, "The green tree has red roots". Hasn't changed.

Last week I was asked to help a contractor remodeling a very fine home. Upon presenting him my business card he noted the phrase "environment sensitive" offering up a snort, then a chuckle followed by a smirk...for he was a "certified green builder." With a wise ass tone, he asked what that phrase meant?

I countered: "You're one of those special green builders, right?" After explaining to him this card and why that phrase was created 21 years ago, after naming him names of big time players in the neighborhood, he realized his game was little league while mine professional.

Of course I didn't get the offer to help in his project. But that is often the case when confronting sheep who pretend to be lions.

Education can be rough on some people. For them it is much easier to parrot the popular line of the day.

Far out! Buzz off! Do the right thing! Make love not war! Kiss this!

The not so hidden "narcissism" of the "green" movement (call it whatever name you can or they want you to) is simple to understand: Man is so much more powerful than this thing we call Nature (more correctly Universe)!

Yea, right pal! Keep marching in lock step with your dumb buddies!

I currently have the pleasure of having 5 cats as companions [all of them adopted from humane society equivalent].

According to the latest, it is equivalent to driving a HUMMER. Yeah! Proudly consuming my share of Hummer driving.

(According to the Other Always Right, it is like having an M1 Abrams tank instead.) ===> Even better!

As far as China and India's refusal to participate, the 'global community' is looking at labeling products with the 'carbon life cycle' and taxing accordingly. Since most 'environmental' problems occurred in the past, the 'tax' will reflect the present and future 'costs'.
A Japanese friend talked about the labeling, with 'carbon life cycling', being designed for their imported beers.
Is this a 'trojan horse' for protectionism?
Just trying to think outside the box...

Consider Van Jones, the classic 'watermelon', green on the outside, red on the inside. Stephen Hicks does an excellent job in 'Explaining Post Modernism' how the ethical standard for the Left has changed from wealth is good to wealth is bad partly because of Socialism's inability to create any wealth. A system that was intended to create equality of outcome succeeded in impoverishing all but the few party bosses at the top. After all, "All animals are equal, but..."

Possibly Dr. Sanity can address the craziness of the enviros. They claim they can foretell the future and control the forces of nature. Like Nancy Pelosi, they believe they are going to save the planet. This is not just hubris, it is megalomania.

Dr. Sanity - Thanks for the articles and analysis. It's very good, and very depressing because of how true and prevelant it is.

There really are no more "liberals" in the classic sense of the term. I wonder should we not just call them what they are - Totalitarians - and be done with it.

Or something close to that. That may not be the exact name, but the term "liberal" is so misleading that it obscures the truth anymore. The "liberal" is not in favor of true freedom in anything, not even in thinking or speaking let alone acting (except for the one exception whcih is sex and then they are in favor of anything except, of course, the normal sex that makes families).

Rather, they are totalitarian. I've noted this to myself for years. My liberal friends simply cannot abide the fact that someone does not share their opinion on...everything.

The liberal is a bully.

The liberal is a brute.

The liberal is intolerant.

The liberal is unjust, unfair, uncouth, and unreal.

They are all little Stalins, Hitlers, Breshnevs, etc. Only they don't have tanks. Not yet at least.

Until now. Obama, and I really would not be surprised at this, has the tanks.

Will they be rolling through US Cities in the next few years? Even money I say.

MikeMc. If history is any indication of future behavior, the tanks will have to roll through the US Cities in the next few years. We still are a politically free society, and to change that it will take martial law. It depends on how the 'anger' the 'progressives' can generate.

They have gone too far and just cannot face reality. The fundamentals have been thrown out the window. But natural law will not be denied. The length of time is yet to be determined.
To see how this will turn out all you need to do is look at the 20th Century despots and tyrants.
Obama told us to 'pick up a mop'. Well, we're just not that into you, Barry.

everything can be accomplished.

I'm looking for the fourth "pillar." Would it be religious bigotry or an equivalent? Dr. S. mentioned three, but I don't see pillar #4 in the list.

The fourth pillar is Terrorism and the use of force. Go read the article at the link.

> The worst thing that you or I can do for the planet is to have children. If they behave as the average person in the rich world does now, they will emit some 11 tonnes of CO² every year of their lives. In their turn, they are likely to have more carbon-emitting children who will make an even bigger mess...

Hey, just think, if everyone who was concerned with CO2 emissions would only take this idea to heart, what an improvement in air quality there could be!!!

These people need a cheering section, to make it clear that all the world appreciates their selfless efforts to make the world a better place!

"If history is any indication of future behavior, the tanks will have to roll through the US Cities in the next few years. We still are a politically free society, and to change that it will take martial law."

Tanks mean military. The military swears an oath to uphold the Constitution. It is also drummed into them NOT to follow unlawful orders. The military will not let itself be an instrument of the left to impose their will on the populace.

Sort of amazing to think that, 45 years ago, it was The Right that such threats were deemed to come from.

No. That wasn't "thought". It was propagandized. That's what the left does. They lie and tell fantastic tales about their enemies. What it really was is projection by the Lefto author who wrote that drivel of a novel.

Note: He invented a threat that wasn't there, but would never write about the actual totalitarians in the world: China, Cuba, Russia, etc.
