Thanks for the beauty and best wishes in your move. Growing up in rural Wisconsin in the 40s and 50s it seemed that moving to California was a euphemism for being de-frocked or dis-barred or something similar. I'm sure that is not your situation. Hurry back to your very helpful blog.

My grandma used to keep a hedge of roses around her front yard. They were always real beauties.

Iirc, she'd "enhance colors" by burring small pieces of iron around some, crushed egg shells around others, and used coffee grinds around the remaining bunch.

Your rose pics remind me of her.

Thank you.

The hard thing about roses in California is that you still have to prune them - even if they have blooms!

Gardening in California is different from gardening in climates where you have a winter. Be sure you latch on to some Sunset magazine publications - their gardening guides are excellent. Don't bother so much with subscribing to the current magazine - although if you do, you gain access to their online resources which are definitely worthwhile ... but if you can get hold of some of their issues prior to about 5 years ago*, they're definitely worthwhile.

*They used to be an "everyman" kind of publication with original approaches, but about 5-10 years ago they got very yuppy.

About last night off-year election results, hopefully this is the end of

"Bush started it"

> The rose garden I plant when I get to California will be able to bloom all year long....can't wait!

...And being in Cali, there will be a never ending supply of sh** to feed them, too!

:oD

.

You're in for a treat. I grew up in Tucson. My mother had around seven patent tea roses and they were unbelievably demonstrative. Not just roses. I once came home to find my wife had mowed down all the tomatoes. "I couldn't take it anymore. Canned tomatoes. Dried tomatoes. Everybody we know has tomatoes. And they keep coming!"

Unfortunately, maybe not.

Obama’s election anniversary message: It’s all Bush’s fault

You don't want to come out here. Trust me, they are all insane.

Can't wait to move away from here
