I heard Sean Hannity reading Bin Laden's message on the radio today. Is there ANY leftist talking point he didn't hit?
On the other hand, he also said that there are no taxes in Islam. So he's apparently reaching out to conservatives as well.
All he needs to do now is praise talk radio and country music, and he'll have all the bases covered.
Well, actually there is a tax in a sharia-oriented society. Non-Moslems pay it for the privilege of remaining non-Moslems, in addition to various social disabilities. The leftists would be paying it if bin Laden's goal were achieved, unless they decided to embrace Islam and I bet not a few of them would.
In any case, Dr. Sanity, bin Laden doesn't really mean it. Don't you know that deep down inside we're all the same and want the same things? Just a good heart to heart and...well, actually, he'd still have the same goals and the same shall we say direct means of trying to achieve them.

Every September, I recall that it is more than half a century (62 years) since I landed at Nagasaki with the 2nd Marine Division in the original occupation of Japan following World War II. This time every year, I have watched and listened to the light-hearted "peaceniks" and their light-headed symbolism-without-substance of ringing bells, flying pigeons, floating candles, and sonorous chanting and I recall again that "Peace is not a cause - it is an effect."

The vanities of ignorance and camouflaged cowardice abound as license for the assertion of virtuous "rights" purchased by the blood of others - those others who have borne the burden and physical expense of Rights whining apologists so casually and self-righteously claim.
At best, these fakers manifest a profound and cryptic ignorance of causal relations, myopic perception, and dull I.Q. At worst, there is a word and description in The Constitution defining those who love the enemy more than they love their own countrymen and their own posterity. Every Yankee Doodle Dandy knows what that word is.

I think it's a question of priorities. They'd rather obsess about something they can't do a damn thing about than focus on a problem that can be analyzed and solved. If you'll notice, there's not a damn thing we can really do about global warming or cooling. And based on Ruddiman's article on anthropogenic causes for global warming if we DID manage to significantly bring down CO2 and methane levels, we'd be knee-deep in an ice age in a very short time frame. (He postulates the Black Death in the Middle Ages brought about the Little Ice Age - and his data looks very plausible and convincing to me.)
But by focusing their energies on a problem that will take literally decades to even slightly modify, they get the benefit of THINKING they're doing something constructive, yet they don't have to actually SOLVE a problem.
I've noticed that about the left. Given the choice between actively and constructively solving a problem and implementing a program to study the problem with the desire to eventually find a solution that can be embraced by all, no matter the ethnicity, religion or financial status of the participants, and depending on massive amounts of government money being spent long-term with an exceedingly indefinite outcome - they'll go for the program.
After all - why solve a problem when you can use it to get votes?

One other thing about the left and their ignoring of the Islamic threat - if you work yourself into a state of mind where you can't bear to fail, you'll avoid the possibility of failure like crazy. That means avoiding the problem, denying the problem, refusing to recognize the problem, and obsessing about OTHER things of 'vital importance' to keep themselves from realizing there's a problem in the first place.
And that's apparently what they're doing.
And damn. Six years ago, I was going along thinking Islam was just another one of the world's religions - pretty sensible, all in all, and willing to co-exist with others. Over the last six years, I've been pretty well dissuaded of that notion, and I can't say I'm happy about that at all.
