I'm pleasantly surprised by the talk coming from President Bush that places the blame for this conflict squarely where it belongs; on Hamas and their supporters.

"How terribly inconvenient for you!"
It's not inconvenient for me at all. People often act against their own best interest and denial isn't exclusively for one group or another (though the political left is drowning in it these days). There are even Jewish groups that have cozied up to Iran and believe the Jewish state shouldn't exist at all. Disconnecting from reality; acting against one's own best interest and in self-destructive ways as well as being clueless into one's own motivations are all things I deal with in my practice on a daily basis. But it doesn't take a psychiatrist to understand the sociopathic qualities of Hamas and how the left idealizes and envies those qualities. Dr. Sanity | Email | Homepage | 01.06.09 - 2:01 pm | #

I wonder when these people who think Israels response is disproportionate will demand we stop sending swat teams in after lone gunmen with only a couple measley hostages?

No. They and others are still alive. There is far more brain damage they can do to both themselves and others.

Since "Mike" probably also voted for O'Bunko, I'm willing to wager he isn't any smarter than anyone else who did, and so he probably hasn't a clue what you mean. However, I also think that it will probably P#$$ him off enough that it was definitely worth saying it. yonason | Email | Homepage | 01.06.09 - 10:07 pm | #

The Chief Rabbi of Israel called for placing them "In Cherem"
(i.e., excommunicating them, i.e., boot their traitorous butts out -
a sort of forced reverse-conversion if you will.)
Of course, since they are no longer Jews, by virtue of ex-communication,
one could argue they aren't a good example, but that would really be a
very silly argument. yonason | Email | Homepage | 01.06.09 - 10:15 pm | #

Alternatively, as I've recommended in other posts, when they whine that Israel is killing them,
the World should respond, "You say you 'CRAVE DEATH' and now you've been given your wish you
should say 'THANK YOU', not complain. Now shut up and go away!"
Alas, the World is on their side, as evidenced by the fact that not a single terrorist
has EVER been charged with even one of the MANY war crimes and violations of Internationl

Palestinians should take a clue from the American Indian. They were conquered by a superior form of humanity – capitalism based on the principles of our Founding Fathers. And the red man eventually chose to be a part of that superior capitalistic society with their highly profitable smoke shops and casinos. Thanks, Mike, for making us all aware of something we already knew!!
"American Jews" are, for the most part, more Left than Jew... and that's not the Hispanic "Joo", either. They may be more Left than you, too, although sorta I doubt it.
In any event, if your position is that killing Jews because they're Jewish is ok, that strikes me as rather antisemitic, even if you call yourself "a Jew" while maintaining that position.
Since that's clearly the position of Hamas -- That killing people because they are Jewish is The Right Thing To Do -- Supporting Hamas is supporting the killing of Jews because they are Jewish.

For many decades, the key to cheaper oil contracts with the Arab world has been to pay lip service to the Palestinian "cause," as opposed to the United States with its support of Israel. Thus, it has become the policy of much of the West, especially Europe. As Europe is so idolized by an American Left that has had little more than the cook's tour of Europe, European policies are automatically considered more "progressive" than American policies, no matter what. So anyone who voted for Obama is stupid, and your only evidence that "the left" is "anti-semitic" is some blogger's hearsay regarding a few people at a rally in San Francisco??
And you believe you know better than the Jews themselves? Clearly, *you care*?

Many people who voted for Obama are stupid; and many who aren't stupid will eventually regret their choice for the vapid "hope and change" meme. As for "knowing better than the Jews themselves"--WTF are you talking about, moron? Israel is engaged in a war with those who want to destroy the Jews and there are a lot more Jews in Israel than in the U.S. Give your idiocy a rest, will you? Look, part of their (the left) probblem is that they are un-easy (to say the least).
If McCain had won, he will be so busy being "NOT BUSH" right now, the McCain new policy/cabinet picks would have been unrecognizable as a GOP-win.
Obama can completely ditch his campaign 'promises' and being as much Bush-like as he wants, occcassionally throwing a 'fricking' bone to the left that delivered him in the early primaries.

And your other sentence is just plain wrong. There are more Jews in the United States than in Israel.

The left is anti-Semetic? Really?

Mike
But, Mike:
A and B vote for O.
Therefore, A = B,
Is False, at least until somehow actually proven otherwise.
Groupists like/need to think in this groupist way - and perhaps even must think this way, if their inherent capacities or psychoderangements have under-abled them to think more realistically.
And this false logic is especially strange, since it is also well know that the Democrat strategy for winning elections is based upon identity group politics, which actually seperates people into competing groups, each hoping to get what they supposedly want, and often at the expense of what the other groups want/get.
So, what American Jews "on the Left" supposedly want/get from Obama doesn't necessarily have anything to do with what the antisemetic = pro-Islamofascist indentity group "on the Left" wants/gets.
Regardless, Mike, the real question is what do you think is the real problem involved concerning the Irael-"Palestinian" conflict? J. Peden | Email | Homepage | 01.08.09 - 11:30 am | #

The first thing you need to do, Mike,
is differentiate the Jewish vote from the left-wing pro-Palestinian (i.e., antisemitic) vote. Jews, who nationwide make up a relatively small percentage of voters in the U.S., historically vote for liberal/Democratic candidates, for reasons more complex than those just involving support to Israel. While Obama's policies are yet to be determined, it's not a foregone conclusion that he's going to abandon Israel and embrace HAMAS or one of the other Palestinian factions. In fact, he has stated the opposite on at least one occasion that I'm aware of (the March 18, 2008 speech in Philadelphia). Nobody can know at this point whether his actions will match his rhetoric, but I'm guessing that some extreme left-wing Palestinian supporters are going to be disappointed. They were also disappointed in Bill Clinton, and, frankly, in Jimmy Carter, whose lovefest with Palestinian radicals didn't begin in earnest until he was safely out of office. What probably helped Obama win some of the left-wing pro-Palestinian vote (as opposed to the Jewish vote) is that he is very much a cipher or blank slate, so it's easy to impute one's one values to him. My forecast for the next four years: Obama stays the course, supporting Israel in much the same manner that W has. waltj | Email | Homepage | 01.10.09 - 1:04 am | #
