Even if all the tales about Israel's culpability and sin were true, there's a question that seems to be asked rarely, if at all.

Following World War I over a million Ionian Greeks, whose ancestors had lived in western Turkey for three thousand years, were removed to Greece. The number of displaced people in Europe after World War II is unknown but a conservative estimate is thirty million. The number of people who went between India and Pakistan after partition is likewise unknown but is in the millions. For that matter, the number of Arabs who fled Israel for whatever reason is about the same as the number of Jews who fled Arab countries.

None of those people languish in refugee camps today, not one. Of all the peoples on the Earth, why are the Palestinians the only ones who supposedly have this right of return? My own sympathy for the Palestinians in their refugee camps is about the same as my sympathy for the Sudeten Germans in theirs.

The US Congress recently passed a resolution recognizing the situation of Jewish refugees from Arab lands. The Economist calls this unhelpful. I wonder why.

Has anyone else noticed that we are playing the same game in this country??
No, it's not nearly as intense. And, no, it's based on either race or wealth, instead of religion or nationality. But it is very much this game that says, "If
you'll give me power, I'll make you feel you're justified by blaming your 'pain'
on someone else." The race- and class-warlords in this country are just
Arafats in the making.
Just looking at the root causes of WW I & II, envy and revenge seem to be primary themes. Al, and Jesse, and Jeremiah, et al will ride that pony
as long as they can, because it gives them power, wealth and acclaim......
and it means never having to truly SERVE anyone but themselves.

To err is human....
To blame someone else is even more human.

Dr. Sanity,

You are a shining light of sanity in a sea of darkness. Thank goodness for the internet so that people like me can see that I'm not alone in my thoughts.

The MSM has completely failed the average person in giving them the "big picture" of events and instead has only contributed to the culture of whining (Palestinians, followers of Jesse Jackson and Rev. Wright, white social "activists,").

This election season is only making things worse, in my opinion. Maybe there will come the backlash, and people will come to their senses. I've been waiting a long time for the whining to stop.

The Thunder Run has linked to this post in the - Web Reconnaissance for 05/05/2008 A short recon of what’s out there that might draw your attention, updated throughout the day...so check back often.

Dr. Sanity, if you believe that Palestinians are incorigible murderers, what do you propose to do? That way lies insanity.

I am refering to specifically this paragraph:

"They don't want peace. They don't want to live in their own state if Israel exists. They don't care about the suffering of innocent people - either Israelis or Palestinians. They don't care, because they have no honor. They are incapable of goodwill. They have no leader with any integrity. They have nothing but their hatred."

I thought there would be more discussion about Arab-Palestinian relations when (1/23/0 the Gaza barrier was bulldozed. The Egyptian govt. didn't want them there at all. Egypt quickly closed off the route with troops.

wilki-On January 25 Egyptian security forces blocked almost all illegal entry points along the border with Gaza to try to stem the flow of Palestinians wanting to leave.[1] Egyptian forces in riot gear erected barbed wire and chain-link fences along the border to prevent more Palestinians from crossing.[31]

After the repair, Palestinians used a bulldozer to knock over the new fence, creating an opening once more.[31] As the border crossings entered their fifth day, Egyptian border police began stopping Gazans from entering in vehicles and blocked off the road beyond Rafah to Arish.[6] In Rafah there was little left to buy, and it appeared Egypt had decided to restrict the resupply of goods to El Arish and Rafah in order to peacefully end the crossings and reestablish control over the border.[6]

Yet the UN criticised Israel for not 'supplying' Gaza, as if it were Israel's responsibility.
I'm sorry. None of this makes sense.

Great column, Doc. Should be required reading in every Middle-East studies program.

I'd just add a bit of historical perspective that is rarely discussed. Today's Palestinians are the Arabs and their descendents who abandoned Israel in 1948 in anticipation of the new nation's destruction. The Arab nations surrounding Israel launched a war of total annihilation against the new nation, and they promised these Palestinian Arabs the spoils of war if they would leave so as to not interfere with the mass extermination project against the Jews.

Unexpectedly, the Arabs got a major ass-whupping, leaving the Palestinians in a state of self-exile and bitterly disappointed to this day. The Palestinian Arabs who stayed in Israel in 1948 have enjoyed full citizenship for six decades now.

To save interested parties from wasting time actually trying to talk with a leftist, here are the Three Truths of Leftism that answer any question you might have:
1. "It's Bush's fault!"

2. "It's Isreal's fault!"

3. "It's global warming and it's your fault!"

There will never be a "Palestinian" state. There is Jordan, which is as close as their going to get. The "Palestinians" are dysfunctional, delusional, and psychotic. Their culture is toxic and cannot be sustained without endless blood sacrifice. Sometime soon, the Israelis will declare they have had enough of it and walk away from the "peace process". Israel will annex the land it wants, and Jordan and Egypt will be left to pick up the unwanted pieces. I'm sure you'll see the Jordanians' concern about a "Palestinian" state will vanish once they have to supervise the Palis.

I don't believe the majority of Palestinians are "incorrigible". I do believe they mostly have murder on their minds and that's why they put up with the murderous thugs who lead them. Most of those psychopaths (haniyeh, abbas, maashal, etc.) have only one thing on their mind--the destruction of Israel. They could care less about the people they manipulate. Abbas may be a bit less psychopathic, but only fractionally. If things continue, we will indeed see more and more madness in that area. I propose that we let the Palestinians learn that there are consequences for their behavior. I propose we stop their flood of money, even "humanitarian" aid which only goes to buy more guns. I propose that the Israelis stop rescuing them and NOT provide them with power etc. Let them deal with the reality of the course they have chosen. When they can kick out Hamas and find some decent leadership; when they stop training babies to be murderers, then perhaps they can be let back into civilized discussions again. I also propose that the Israelis stop holding back on retaliation for their provocations and that the world stop being conned by their cries of victimization even as the lob rockets continually over into Israel.

I find it interesting that this "vinny" misconstures the recounting of 4 or 5 decades of historical and empirical facts that are quite easily proven to be a "belief" on the part of Dr. Sanity.

!

pimf -- "misconstrues"...

"Do you know how the race of Orcs first came into being?"

A lot of Palestinians got out of Palestine, usually to America. As one anecdote put it, "If you were Palestinian, where would you rather live? The West Bank, Gaza, or California?"

What I think happened is everyone who could get out got out. All the PEOPLE in Palestine got out of there, and all that is left are the Orcs.

In regards to what the “Doctor” is spouting off about, I think the gist of her argument is incorrect: instead of focusing on what Carter said/didn’t say, she should focus on her own obvious condition, something akin to Asperger’s Syndrome.

With D. Sanity’s well documented quandary with truth and reality, over time, her obvious disgust towards existence (check her facial expression!) forces her into near-insanity and self-hatred. She embodies Sartre's theories of existential angst, and she searches anxiously for significance in all the things that had filled and fulfilled her sorry life up to that point, excluding her convalescence and subsequent medication “therapy”. But finally she comes to a revelation into the temperament of her being - the troublesomely provisional and limited nature of existence itself, and on top of that her notorious attention deficit.

In her solemn oath to kiss the ass of Boosh and any of his criminally morality-deficient lackeys, she accepts, yea revels, in the indifference of the physical world to man's aspirations. She is barely able to see that realization not only as a regret but also as an opportunity, just like Boosh and pin-dick Cheney. People are free to make their own meaning: a freedom that is also a responsibility, because without that commitment there will be no meaning, not that that ever bothered anybody in the current admin in the least.

The “Doctor” is just one of many examples of people whose behavior shows bad faith, who are inauthentic: members of the bourgeoisie who believe their social standing or social skills give them a "right" to exist, or others who embrace the banality of life and attempt to flee from freedom by repeating empty gestures, others who live by perpetuating past versions of themselves as they were or who live for the expectations of others, or those who claim to have found meaning in politics, morality, or ideology.

Wow! Apparently Carl's tin foil hat has been preventing reality from getting through to his brain.

Carl, you said, "With D. Sanity’s well documented quandary with truth and reality.."

To what EXACTLY are you referring? Based on what EXACTLY do you cast Dr Sanity as having Asperbers? Where EXACTLY did you earn your medical and diagnostic bona fides? I have to ask because your 'diagnosis' and 'analysis' are not only shallow and irrelevant, but seems to show a complete unawareness of even the most basic psychological principles. While the Doctors ideas may merit disagreement and discussion, it is clear that you have no idea how to even broach a debate on even the most basic of levels.

I can only imagine the image of the primate that must be reflected in your mirror.

Clearly, you are a poster child for the school voucher program. It is quite apparent that you possess no critical thinking skills. Arguments with no supporting data other than assertions are pretty much the refuge of the poorly educated- and your comment reflects your lack of any real intellectual capacity.

That you even pretend to know what you are talking (when so clearly you don't) about is yet another example of an underdeveloped intellect.

Know what I mean? Sure you do.

Give us a dance. While you are not capable of rational discussion, perhaps you can entertain us.

Help!!!Somebody get a roll of toilet paper so Carl Gordon can wipe his mouth.

Sigmund, Carl, etc. etc... We all have a right to disagree, but there;s no excuse for the pot calling the kettle black! Where's your proof that you know anything, let alone can find your ass with both hands and a map. And one final point: I won;t tolerate improper spelling from anyone, as well as you.

Carl, you said, "We all have a right to disagree, but there;s no excuse for the pot calling the kettle black!"

The name calling was started by you (as was the childish reference to photographs. Clearly substantive argument is not a strong suit of yours. If it were, you would have made cogent and coherent remarks). Simply stated, you could not address Dr Sanity's substantive arguments and your 'analysis' is not only flawed, it is deceitful.

While there are many things that can be debated, your 'arguments' are not in that category. Dr Sanity is way out if your league in the smarts department.

Lastly, that you have a deep seated issue with typos is yet another indication of intellectual deficiencies. When you can't argue a point, run away (I can only imagine your disgust and revulsion with less than perfect handicapped people).

It seems you aren't capable of a reasoned argument with me, if the best volley you have is a reference to typos!

Like I said, give us a dance. Clearly you are incapable of answering the very direct and specific questions posed to you.

You might as well entertain us.

Carl, Carl, Bo-Parl, Bo-nanna-fanna-fo-Farl, Me-my-mo-Marl...CARL.

Very enjoyable lab after the lecture today, Doctor.

"I won;t tolerate improper spelling from anyone" - Carl

Please explain the semicolon, won't you?

If I agreed with this analysis of Palestinians, Arabs, and their history--and I do-- I must conclude that Arafat won. By accident or by design I do not know.
The Palestinian culture will not recover from Arafat's stewardship, and it is unrealistic to expect to turn around smething when the young have been so corrupted. Israel has proven it will not do to it's enemies what it's enemies are clearly going to do to it, so there is only an end game to play out. The Jews will choose to leave before they will wipe out their enemies.
But the bright side is that the Arabs will resume doing to each other what they always have done, and without destraction.

This Carl Gordon comment looks like this comment left at the Ace of spades blog:
http://minx.cc/?post=261745

He just cut and pasted it, changing the names. I think he left the same comment at tigerhawk's blog.

Carl... wtf?

Actually, the pseudostinians do have a state. Ref.:

First of all, the Palestinian Arabs do have a state. Its called Jordan. During the League of Nations Mandate period, the land originally set aside by the League of Nations as the Palestine Mandate was supposed to provide for a national home for the Jewish people. The British were given the authority to manage the Mandate and help the Jews make the transition to independence. Instead, almost 80% of the original Mandate land was carved out and arbitrarily made into the Arab country of Trans-Jordan (later renamed Jordan). In all the land of the Mandate east of the Jordan River it was "No Jews Allowed". West of the Jordan, the 20% part of the Mandate, the British restricted Jewish immigration and gradually adopted policies that were more and more pro-Arab. Palestinian Arabs are the majority of the population of Jordan even today

Hey Carl G.,

First, get back on your meds. You obviously have delusions of adequacy while you're off them, so do the rest of us a favor and STFU until they kick in.

For the rest of us, I've seen several Palestinian refugee camps, up close and personal, on both the West Bank and in Jordan (in Amman, near the ruins of ancient Philadelphia). I've smelled the raw sewage coming from them, as well as the stench of uncollected garbage. The places were absolute cesspits in any way imaginable (and a few that probably weren't). It's been a few years, but I doubt things have changed much since the early '90s. I wouldn't let a dog live there, and a cat wouldn't tolerate it in the first place. As another poster noted, those that could got out long ago, to the U.S., the Emirates, and Kuwait, although that one kinda went south in '91. The ones that are left are the losers who have been so inculcated in a culture of victimhood and hatred that the only they live for is killing Jews. They can't even clean up their own trash. They don't need the Israelis or the Jordanians to do that for them, but it's still in the "too hard" category.

By contrast, I've also been to Nazareth, which is now a predominantly Arab city inside Israel proper. All the residents are Israeli citizens. The sewage works. The houses have indoor plumbing. There's no more trash in the streets than you'd see in Haifa or Tel Aviv. (Ok, so Israel ain't Switzerland when it comes to litter). They vote in Israeli elections. In short, the people who live there go to jobs and study in schools, and take care of their families, and plan for the future, the way that normal people do. Being away from the PLO-HAMAS death cult makes all the difference. (BTW, I'm not Jewish, as if that matters).

should be: "...the only "thing" they live for..."

Doc, could you get haloscan to get you a preview function?

Carl is the kind of person that I only waste one comment. Then I ignore he/she/it for it will never have an intelligent comment based on a reasoned analysis.
The Palestinians are like a number of people in this country. They are so filled with hate for others that they create their own version of HELL. There is no compromise. Only the constant spiral down into name-calling, dysfunctional behavior, ad homonym attacks, personal assaults, then justification as to why those who disagree with you should not be allowed to live, and finally carrying out of violence against an increasing number of individuals through any means possible.
Carl,
Attention to minor details that have little affect and ignoring the ideas presented denotes a small mind incapable of strategic thinking.

> if you believe that Palestinians are incorigible murderers, what do you propose to do? That way lies insanity.

Oh, really?

1) What, praytell, are YOU limiting the responses to that you consider them to be "insanity"?

2) If they are insane, then what does that say about YOU?

3) If they really ARE the only responses, then how can they be "insane", no matter how undesirable they may be?

It's a fair bet to make that your extension of this heads off into territory that few here would advocate.

I'm speculating, but I'd suspect that the first step in correcting a sick patient is to get them to recognize that they are, in fact, sick... and as long as their family and friends are telling them "Hey, nothing wrong with you, the world really, really is screwing you over!!", then that concept -- that they are at the center of their problem -- isn't going to work real well in the patients' vision of the world they live in. It's always much, much easier to blame others as to why everything is shit.

But by all means: Tell us what this (almost inarguably correct) perception of the Doc's reduces YOUR solutions to the Palestinian problem to...

We'd like to hear 'em.

.

> ...but there;s no excuse...
> ...I won;t tolerate improper spelling from anyone, as well as you...

Y'know, Carl, you really, really need to check missives calling attention to any spelling issues before you post them... Just a bit of advice. A whine about spelling containing spelling or punctuation errors, well, it sorta marks you (in case there was any doubt from your blathering) as an incompetent idiot.

As far as "Siggie's" bona-fides, he's got the degree to actually, legally diagnose the terms you're throwing around, something I'm willing to bet you lack, along with effective rhetorical skills.

> Carl, Carl, Bo-Parl...

Thanks, you jackass. Like I really, really needed that @#$%#^^$@@!! song running through my head all day today...
(o:

> The Jews will choose to leave before they will wipe out their enemies.

James, the idiots get their hands on one nuke and the face of the Middle East is going to change quite radically. They don't have the brains to grasp how utterly the USA and Israel will come down on them. Even if there's a Dem in power (something I sort of doubt) there will not be much left of the Arabs when Israel is done with them, with or without our help.

They're kind of like the USA in that regard -- they want, really hard, to be the nice guys -- but they will rip anyone a new asshole who fucks with them.

I have no doubt whatsoever that they have both multiple nukes and the delivery mechanisms. If it comes time to take off the gloves, I am quite sure that many cities in the ME will cease to exist.

In truth, the chance of the use of a nuke went up substantially with the collapse of the USSR... but the damage to the world and human society which would happen in that event has gone down massively -- so it balances out.

Excellent article. It elegantly phrases what I have been saying for years: that the Palestinians are the political "Rat Children" (Chuhahs) of the Middle East. Deliberately disfigured or left untreated by the other ME Arab governments to gain political advantage.

Re the actual Chuhas, see http://www.chippa.com/shadaula.html .
