Sounds like a Monty Python routine - funny in a very sad way.

The problem lies with the public schools (as well as parents who have lost their way, and who don't demand the schools be returned to America's original ideals), as most religious people know.

Note that the Rebbe doesn't insist on any more than a return to what America once stood for. He elaborates in other places on how providing after school programs, where children participate in meaningful activities and are exposed to decent role models, is what should be done, and has succeeded whenever it was employed.

Every "progressive" agenda of the left is manifested to destroy the identity and self-confidence of the individual - the individual - the basic unit of capitalistic society.

This you can see in the form of anti-patriotism, anti-nationalism, anti-gender nut cases like this "couple", anti-be proud of your family/ race, etc. etc.

This is a runaway ideology. There have been many examples of this, each more stupid than the next. There are worse examples than what these parents did, from history : suicide-waves, where out of nowhere thousands of unrelated (usually young) people commit suicide, for no discernable reason. This happened twice in the Roman empire, a few times in Byzantium, everyone knows "die leiden des youngen Werthers" (in which some parents actually encouraged their children to commit suicide, can you imagine ?). But there are others.

Other waves have existed : Catilina's whore politics are a good example of this. Many instances of iconoclasm were also recorded in history. They came out of nowhere, grew like wildfire, destroyed lots of lives and yet more property, and they destroyed themselves. 5 years after they happened there wasn't a trace of the ideology left.

There is nothing that can be done about this phenomenon. People having some modus operandi that is anti-nature but not anti-society. And this can be sustained for a short while, allowing the ideology to grow. But needless to say, our society, no matter how powerfull, will eventually fail to protect these people from nature, and *boom*.

Nothing will be left of them. Of course those who don't participate are left to clean up the mess.

You know, implicit in this whole thing is the idea that the child is a helpless victim of social stereotypes. The logical conclusion of their contention that gender is a (harmful) social construct would be to teach the child to identify and resist it, not to try to shelter the child from it in a ridiculous way.

These Swedish parents are trying to play God with their child. All they will accomplish is the destruction of a human being. This notion that gender is merely an artificial construct has already destroyed a young man, David Reimer, who committed suicide in 2004.

David Reimer's penis was accidentally burned during a circumcision procedure and then had to be cut off when he was a baby. His parents were advised by a prominent psychologist to raise him as a girl. His tragic life is described in: "As Nature Made Him: The Boy Who was Raised as a Girl," by John Colapinto, NY: HarperCollins, 2000.

Odd that they would do an experiment like this with their own child. The Nazis did similar things, but they used Jews and Gypsies, whom they didn't consider human.
But as long as they're going to do it why stop there? I think it demonstrates a certain chauvinism. They are restricting the child's choices to varieties of homo sapiens. This leaves out 99.99% of the animal kingdom. The child might prefer life as a duck. Or a sea urchin.
And then there's plants. I always thought Spanish moss had it pretty soft.
And imagine playtime. Instead of the boring old "playing doctor" the child could play the "county agricultural extension agent" game and pretend to be hoof-and-mouth disease. Or root rot.

Just on the off chance that "pop" means something else in Swedish, I tried a couple of translation sites. They give the English equivalent of "pop" as "pop."

When I was a teacher I had to read a book called "The Outsiders." One of the characters is named Sodapop and as a Michigander I know that the proper term for soft drinks is "pop." Maybe the character is the reference.

Then again, maybe the parents are lunatics.

Indeed, this is where some of the early feminist ideas held promise, until the loons got ahold of them.

They decided women were the victims of men, rather than that the gender roles involved in both genders had become dated and partly, if not largely, ineffective in a modern industrial (and now post-industrial) society.
